It looks to me like there maybe was truth to the Marchant Pasternak rift rumour. Why else would Marchant be on the outs like this ?

I dont see any rift evidence, just Sweeney being logical and not dealing from emotion. Marchand is a pending UFA who is turning 37, has had multiple major hip surgeries the past couple offseasons and is out again with an injury. You dont pay 37 year olds for what they were.

For reference, at the same age Bergeron, Krejci and Chara signed 1-2 year deals worth under $2 million a year

The Lindholm and Zadorov contracts are going to hurt them down the line.

Should they have avoided these big UFA contracts and gone for a rebuild sooner?
“I am not exposed” says that a team just off a 109 points season should have gone for a rebuild. Did you think before posting this or it was just the spurt of the moment?

Cap space can be the biggest blessing or biggest curse depending on who has it. Really hope it's used wisely.

Need to nail the next coaching hire. Apparently we're interested in hiring David Carle from the University of Denver but that scares the shit out of me especially when he's only 35. Just screams to me the next Jeremy Colliton who's gonna go in there without any experience and look like a pig in a pilot's seat.

IMO Carle is only going to leave his job for the perfect situation. Not sure Boston is that right now.

I think he'd only leave (right now at least) for a team leaving a rebuild with a solid young core that can grow with him.

Bad news brother, it’s way less desirable as a retooling team than in years past. A couple nice pieces for sure but…

I think the majority centers would love to play on a line with Pastrnak. Most goals in the league in the last 3 years. Imagine how many goals he would hey with a legit #1 center or #1 left winger.

They still have the foundational pieces to build a great team but it will take 1-3 years

What is Marchant rumoured to want $$ wise

“The other thing I do believe, at the end, and nobody has disputed this to me, I do not believe the Bruins were offering a pay cut,” Friedman said. “His current AAV is $6.125 [million]. I’m certain the offer was not below that. Now, how much more than that it was, I don’t know, but I am certain the offer was not below that. Marchand was not being asked to take a pay cut.

Don't know what Marchand was asking for, but don't think Boston was being unreasonable or unfair in offering 3x6+ at his age.
