TSN: Sweeney praised by other GMs for work on TDL day

Marchand coming back / I got 4 people telling me it’s in the bag

The question I have are Bruins fans going to be ok if he brings Sam Bennett with him

It’s out there folks
Well, you probably are more likely to be talking to people that are closer to situation than I am, but just my opinion, I rather they do not make any move for either one of them.

Context is important. Sweeney traded away picks at the deadline for the opportunity to add for a deep playoff run. One is unlikely to find top 6 players when not picking until the third or fourth round.
And where are those players he traded for, to go on this deep playoff run?

Bennett I’m kidding, Marchand I’m not

But until it’s official anything can happen

I get the impression that you, and many others would like Marchand back, I am not one of them, this team needs to move on from the past, and start with a new group, Pasta has been outstanding and hopefully Mcavoy and Lindholm are healthy, if so than let's move forward and let them set the model for what this team should and can be.

I want him back - he’s good

Anchors second line and is an iconic player

Easy decision for me

He had 6 1st Round and 5 2nd Round picks in the 2015-2017 drafts. He has exactly
Zero top 6 F and 1 top 4D man on the roster from those 11 picks. Within those
6 1st Round picks Kyle Connor, Matt Barzal and Robert Thomas went immediately
after their picks. The 2024 pick has now shifted to a possible bust, so no way can you reasonably argue there aren't grounds for termination if you believe you can't let this guy keep drafting.
The 15 &17 drafts bothers me .They should have done better then they did and that is definitely on Sweeney.Anyhow it's water under the bridge & I am more concerned with this draft right in front of them.Lets go Sweeney, hit a homerun.

You don't think the timing of this thread is dubious at best? Team gets eliminated from playoffs and we got folks here praising this clown? Very much agenda driven, imo
Lonnie, all i did was post a link to an article/video.

There was no agenda. So please stop trying to call me out. You have no idea what I think of Sweeney.

I am definitely not a Sweeney fan( called for his firing multiple times) but I think he did well at the trade deadline. If this thread said polled Bruins fans instead of other GMs would your opinion be the same? Just curious.

It's almost like some here wished Sweeney had kept Marchand, Coyle, Frederic and Carlo.... likely just finishing in/out of a wildcard spot. Receiving no prospects or picks and watching some guys walk for free this summer.
Oh boy, that Sweeney is a sure dumb-dumb.

I don’t know how anyone can praise trading for draft picks as a means to a good GM. He bought some lottery tickets is all it is. Now selecting a player that becomes a full time NHLer cool you can definitely look back and say he did a great job. He screws up the picks and doesn’t find any NHLers it becomes a disaster.

I guess the long winded point is right now you just can’t tell how well this will work out either way

It’s crazy I know, but you can evaluate things as they happen. Getting a second round pick for an injured Trent Frederic? That’s good GMing. We don’t need to see what the pick turns out to be in five years to objectively say that was a good trade. Etc etc.

Any way you try to swing it you still only bought a lottery ticket. You trade someone who played in the NHL has scored close to 20 goals in a season and turn it into nothing well your team isn’t going to survive. You’ll become the Sabres who traded away a bunch of talent for picks, prospects and still can’t make the playoffs in over a decade.

So praise him all you want but if those picks don’t turn into anything it can become a decade of missing the playoffs real quick.

It’s like me selling you a lottery ticket for $100 and you claiming you won that deal and it was good before you even scratch the ticket

Well he did bring back Joker, Mittelstadt, Minten, Lauko, Khustidinov and promoted Lysell. So its not a completely accurate description of the deadline.

Joker, Mittelstadt, Khustidinov & Lauko may provide net upgrades on Coyle, Carlo and Brazeau.

Or Mittelstadt with 1.8M retained to Minnesota might get a 2nd back and
$3.9M gained on the cap to help sign Tavares and Marchand. Just spitballing but its going to take some creative rostering to upgrade to a legit top 6 and acceptable top 9.
