TSN: Sweeney praised by other GMs for work on TDL day

He was a great to good to mediocre GM for the Bruins. His time should be up and should not be in charge of the rebuild IMO. I love and hate a lot of things he did. This past deadline was masterful
This is pretty much how I feel. I Think he gets too much credit for the Bruins recent success, when for me the majority of success should be lauded onto PC/Gorton, but thats typical when an old GM goes out the door and the new one comes in and success follows.

I like a lot of what he did in short term, but he scares the hell out of me on his off season moves and right now the Bruins need to hit and hit it big in those areas. ( Draft/Free agency)

As of right now I love what he did at the deadline, in 3-4 years from now is when we'll really know for sure, but yea I think it'll pan out as being much better than good.

Masterful it is not until after the draft is evaluated.

According to NHL insider Pierre LeBrun, the Bruins are considering a change at the general manager position and moving on from Don Sweeney.

Sweeney being in the final year of his contract means the Bruins have to make a decision. Is the organization comfortable enough to put its faith in him to continue in the role for several seasons? LeBrun notes that the lack of clarity surrounding his future has “created a bit of noise” around the league. The Bruins’ on-ice struggles and inconsistent play have raised questions about the direction of the team.

If the Bruins are leaning toward a rebuild, it could mean the Bruins want a different person spearheading that rebuild. With a possible GM change looming, Boston may look to reset its roster.

The Bruins’ decision on Sweeney is expected in the coming weeks, pressure mounting to get this team back on track.

I’d like to see Neely go and give Sweeney a year without him first.

please god get rid of both of these morons

I thought he did fantastic at the deadline this year. The only one I question is the Marchand deal, and the fact that it wasn't a guaranteed 1st.

For some reason, I only recently found out that conditional 1st wasn't in 2026, which is what I thought the deal was. Put me in the camp that considers the Marchand trade the only deadline blemish.

He is the great Gm who knows how to get to there, but not how to put it over the top.

Theo and Duquette
I have to be one of the biggest Sweeney detractors on this board- will never get over the 2015 draft or the 2016 deadline (where he held onto Eriksson and gave up four draft picks for Liles/Stempniak only to miss the f***ing playoffs). Even I can admit that he's done enough to bring at least one cup to Boston during his tenure.

2019 the Bruins were the better team and blew it. 2 goals allowed on 4 shots by Rask in first period of game 7. Marchand line change. The stuff of nightmares. 2023 he assembled an absolute wagon- I will likely never live to see a better Bruins roster. But the players choked to an unbelievable degree. IMO, the '23 Bruins choked harder than any collection of humans in the history of team sports, dating back to when this was the game of choice:

That is not good! You'd think somewhere along the line in 10 years he'd hit on someone somewhere. On the bright side he's overdue, lol
