I’ve gone back and forth on this on whether you really pump the brakes tonight or go balls to the wall. I think you have to try to win this game 10-0 and run Sweden out of the building. Keep progressing and improving before Thursday.
I think a lot of Swedes would, in their most honest moment, say they’d rather get back to their respective cities than play this game.

A bronze medal game in a tournament with 4 teams is akin to a participation trophy.

Idea for NHL, why not have both games on at the same time? One in MTL one in Boston. I mean, at least both games are meaningful to start. Now you have this game in the evening totally devoid of meaning. The fifa world cup has the 3rd round of games with teams in the same group having the same kickoff times.
I imagine that the NHL scheduled the games this way in an attempt to get better TV ratings and feature the USA's game in prime time. Also, the FIFA World Cup (as well as most other major international soccer tournaments) now schedule the final two group matches to kick off simultaneously to prevent collusion. They still had a fiasco on their hands after the final group stage match between Austria and West Germany, despite it kicking off at the same time as Algeria vs. Chile.

Fair enough. We'll see how things go. For now, it feels like it's a gamble that the NHL took, and is probably going to lose. If the game wasn't meaningless, then it would be a win on the gambling for better TV ratings, but it could still be a well-watched game anyway, so the jury's still out.
