Sweden is overachieving, not choking.

Nobody cares about round robin. When it comes to playoffs, then Sweden is not a top 5 nation. Also Sweden was not even good in round robin this time.

Finland has more active players than Sweden. Sweden have even less active players than Czechia.

Just becuse Finland have sucuess it does not mean other small nations will have that too. I dont see Switzerland or Slovakia having that sucess that Finland have for exemple.

There is no mystery. We are not good enough. Simple as that.
During that lengthy preliminary winning streak, many of your fellow countrymen made it clear that that mattered greatly and some claimed it was a greater achievement than winning gold. Lol

Finland does have more registered hockey players than Sweden, but only by a negligible margin, so not an excuse. As for the amount of registered players in Czechia? Half of what Sweden has. Read that again. HALF!

We are top 4 with our B team. Top 3 with our A team.

Well you need to be athletic to succeed in sports… Sweden sent 10 04 and 1 05. The youngest team by far. As the Canadian experts already deduced before the cup we are not aiming at winning this cup, we are aiming at winning the next cup in Gothenburg (hence shy a lot of good 03 were left out in this cup despite being more competitive).
Yea you could visibly notice that in the semi yesterday, some of the Czechs players beard growth f. ex. ,compared to the Swedes . Ugh

Making the semis is about what I hoped for this year. As we had the youngest team this year
Better next year? And so will the US and probably Finland as well.
The US will have a lot of players coming back just like Sweden, so no real advantage against one opponent. Canada will always be competitive.
Finland will have Kemell and Nyman coming back, two high end talents. Add Rönni, Salin, Hämeenaho, Kaskimäki.
The 2006 players Konsta Helenius and Kiviharju, probably top10 picks both of them.
Same or better goalies born 2005.
And i don't believe Kulonummi nor Elmeri Laakso will be any worse than this years 2003 born defenders.
Also, don't believe Lassila will be such a downgrade to Verner Miettinen either.
Then you never know if Kiiskinen, Hynninen, Jesse Nurmi or others take big step next year.
My point in this? You insist on excusing your "Failures" every single time with speculations or writing that you guys are missing a lot of players. That is childish
and disrespecting towards your opponents.
Because you never know with talents, just look at Lambert and Kemell.
Lambert hasn’t took a single step in his development these last 2-3 years.
Kemell wasn't better in anything this year compared to the previous.

That's starting to be the thing here. Some swedes seem to have the most excuses of all, every single time.
I mean you guys consider yourselves a top3 nation with depth. Still you haven't won gold for 11 years and still you insist on complaining about missing players when Slovakia missed their first pick and don't have the same depth and they still managed better against Canada?

Hilarious how you keep on convincing yourselves about something that you can't prove with results or recent history.

We did have the youngest team in the tournament by a fair margin this year though, so objectively speaking our odds will improve next year. Even TSN talked about that.

verb (used with object), poor-mouthed [poor-moutht, -mouthd], poor-mouth·ing.
to declare (one's ability, power, position, etc.) to be inadequate or disappointing, sometimes as an intentional understatement; downplay: We know you're just poor-mouthing your skill at playing bridge—you're a good player.

Probably wouldn't have made the semis if Russia played. This country is awful when it games that actually matter.
So why do we have so many silver and bronze if we are always awful when the games matter?

Well, Sweden have done better than Czechia for about 20 years now in U20, have we not?

Are different countries’ numbers of registered hockey players even comparable?

I recall one list stating that the Czech Republic has more registered players than Russia, which just doesn’t sound right and makes you question how the numbers are attained between countries and if there’s any use using these figures to discuss the popularity of the sport or the success of different development programmes and so on, since it gets pretty obvious we’re missing something with Russia’s numbers.

I guess you could use neighbouring Finland as a barometer of comparison.

In the last 10 WJ this is the breakdown.

Finland : 3 gold, 1 silver, 1 bronze, 5 medals.

Sweden : 0 gold, 2 silver, 2 bronze, 4 medals.

Seems about right for the size of Sweden, although its hard not to notice that Finland has 3 gold medals in this span, which is more than Sweden has won in the 46 years of the tournament so I can see how people could classify Sweden as choking.

every team this year was somewhat crappy. Russia would have won gold easily if they had participated.

How are you defining "active" players?

There were 26 players drafted from Sweden in 2022, 25 from Russia, 14 from Finland, 7 from Czechia and 6 from Slovakia. Sounds like Sweden has the most active players (outside Canada and USA)

I love how when Canada wins this tournament a lot it suddenly becomes a "joke tournament" but when its other countries winning it reverts back to a very meaningful tournament. Funny how that works
i don't know. i would feel like a cheat if my team won but the main contender was banned from participating.

Since when it Russia the "main contender" though? I mean be serious here, Russia last won gold in 2011, and Canada handled them pretty easily in the 2015 and 2020 finals.

I'm not going to get into the politics of why Russia isn't here, but that's just the reality. I bet you weren't complaining when the Soviets were winning all those golds when Canada's best players weren't there.
