The morbid curiosity in me wanted to see what happened if he didn't sign, but pleased to hear this.

Will be more pleased if DL and Sutter are on the same page re: making some changes going forward, but this is a step in the right direction imo.

Love Sutter.

Makes me think Dean and Darryl talked and are on the same page. I smell moves coming if this is true. Sounded like Darryl wanted a winner to coach.

also makes me think that Darryl can see winning with some of the players in the AHL next year. He has been watching Ontario games and maybe DL told him some of the kids would need to be on the big club next year.

I like this

Great. Means I don't have to change my username.

Oh, and he's an excellent coach and I don't think there's anyone out there who can replace him on the market currently. That too.

Was hearing Payne was first choice before Stevens

I saw some of those rumors as well but didn't believe them for one simple reason. Stevens is an associate coach not assistant coach. He is also the highest paid person in the league in his position. So if they promoted from within, which I think they would have, Stevens was the guy that was going to get it.

And it will likely be for a couple seasons again with options. Glad they both seem very interested in changes to try to revitalize the competitive spirit in the team. Young blood will do it.

I'm glad to hear that and I hope Lombardi is willing to give Sutter the roster space to allow him to do that.

Say goodbye to deadweight and pylons such as Schenn and Scuderi. Seeing how many young players have made an impression in these playoffs makes me wish that the Kings went in a similar direction. Not a rebuild, but by inserting young players into the lineup and giving them an opportunity to succeed.

The Lightning, Penguins, Sharks, Predators and Blues have all done so. Chicago has been doing this for years, the Kings did it in 2012 with King and Nolan and in 2013 and 2014 with Muzzin, Toffoli and Pearson. It's due time that they give guys like Dowd, Mersch, Auger, Gravel and Forbort and opportunity to play. Shore and Andreoff will likely figure in as well seeing how they were with the team all of this past season.

This Kings team needs some extra energy in their lineup, and I think an injection of youth and exuberance can help.

I'd like to see comments from players. Somehow, I don't feel some of them like Sutter...

The only player I've sensed that with is Dustin Brown. I think he's the one responsible for the "garbage can" incident.

Additionally, I know this was fresh off of their 2012 Cup win, but having spoken to Dustin Penner that summer, I asked him about Sutter and he loved him, said he's an awesome coach. And you know how much Sutter was hard on Penner too, so to hear him say that tells a lot about the respect he has of his players.

While our AHL team does well as a group, we don't have any stand out players for the big club. I don't see Mersch or Dowd being the next Toffoli or Pearson. There is some hope for Kempe, but who knows with that as well. Next year is definitely going to be a down year if our bottom six is full of the Reign players.

This part makes me happy to hear...I was a Penner fan. Was shocked how he did not sign somewhere after his stint in Washington.

Same with glencross...what do they do to rentals there?

Side note: Penner always reminded me of Pam's ex-fiance (roy I think) from the office

They don't have to necessarily be stand out players yet. None of those guys are expected to jump in and play a big role.

Look at how the Penguins have utilized Conor Sheary, Bryan Rust and Tom Kuhnhackl. They also have Brian Dumoulin and Derrick Pouliot on the blueline. These guys weren't brought in with the expectation that they will be "stand out players."

Same goes for San Jose with Joonas Donskoi, Chris Tierney and Melker Karlsson.

I think some of you have some unrealistic expectations thinking they need to find the next Kopitar or Doughty. That's not happening unless the Kings tank. Kempe has a lot of promise, and the names we are suggesting be brought up are being considered guys who can replace a King or Lewis.

I don't get where anyone is saying they need a replacement for Toffoli or Pearson. We're not suggesting the Kings trade those players, unlike some other fools who seem gung ho over that idea.

Team needs at least one more (two is preferable) D-man who can make a solid first pass out of the zone.

Top six is fine with Lucic. One 30 goal and three 20 goal scorers with Gaborik possibly eclipsing 20 if he doesn't go down with the knee.

So while there isn't another Toffoli or Pearson (can easily debate the latter), there is NHL talent down there for the bottom six at Black Friday prices. Only way they stay competitive is for these kids to contribute because this team needs sub-$1MM contracts in a lot of spots.

I was so impressed with some of those Pens players I started looking them up. Some of those you mentioned spent time in the ECHL. Dumoulin was a 2nd rounder I believe...the rest were not drafted or late rounders. Sullivan just knew who was fast or a solid two way player and would succeed at the pro level since he coached down in the AHL.
