TV: Survivor 48

^ This guy is basically always right when he puts out spoilers. Cast is suppose to be revealed tomorrow. There are 2 people from Survivor 49 on it, so beware if youre looking on there. Pretty crazy theyre taking 2 people that will only have like a week or 2 turn around and then playing again. Will be like when Russell was on HvV.

True on those. Looking at filming dates, they definitely spread out filming a lot more back then than what they do now.

Samoa finished filming July 19th, 2009 and HvV started filming August 9th, 2009. IIRC Russell had not even a full week back at home before having to fly out for HvV. Had never realized how many players have played in b2b seasons.

I'm just gonna guess the 49ers are like Michaela and Zeke in this case, since it's such a short turn around that I'm gonna guess pre-merge or early jury.

The one thing to always keep in mind when it comes to Cambodia is the Cambodia is actually filmed after Koh Rong, so the entire cast had seen all of Joe and Shirin's game and they had a usual layoff. I believe the only players who played truly unknown were Malcolm, Russell, Zeke and Michaela. All-Stars saw the beginning of PI, Guatemala knew the story of Ulong, and Joe/Shirin were known to Cambodia (as the cast was announced live then flown out at WA final).

The funny story is that the reason Amanda got like no recognition by the fans in Micro is she had a small edit early on, and once Amanda say the rest of the "favorites" she realized she lost China.

Seems a bit too 46-49 heavy, and I don't feel the need to see Ozzy as well. Would have been nice to see Amanda, Jesse, and some of the earlier season villains.

Don't think Tiffany, really deserves to be back truthfully.

Amanda was one of the few 4 time returnees I really wanted back. Same with Jerri. Def cool to get Stephenie and Colby back. Cirie is a legend but I can't see her ever getting out to the end, and she literally just had big roles on BB and Traitors.

I'm most disappointed by Aubry, Jonathan, Ozzy and a couple others at the expense of who they reportedly cast over them.

I'll say this about Tiffany. Survivor has a decent history of slept on players they loved in casting who were forgettable their first season but became iconic like Wentworth and Parv.

Fair enough.

I'm okay with Jonathan since at least he brought some incredible team challenge strength, like never seen before.

I'm a bit worried about Cirie, cause she could hardly compete in challenges in her years, this is like 20 years later.

Would of liked to see Amanda, Carolyn, Jerri for the woman side, and Jesse, Sean Rector, Rob Cesterino, maybe even Hantz or someone villainous

People on reddit joking that Jeff just picked a bunch of people he personally really likes and it definitely seems that way lol...

Not putting Rob C on is so dumb... This guy is dying to get back on a show, but he has a bit of a rocky history with Jeff over the years.

Incredibly bad, no omar and no jesse?

I stopped watching this season because it was so damn boring (first time ive done that since they were clearly rigging ben to win his season) and of course they have THREE people from it?

Too many people from the 40s
I'd say too many late 40's.

Jesse 4th place finisher from 42-44ish? range i woulda liked to see. Kaleb from i think 45 as well.

I know they gotta have some controversial ones, but like do we need the nuts Coach or Q guys back again? Really? They sucked enough first time(s) around. And Q's running mate as well, I don't even remember her name.

Meh can't be perfect. I was glad to see Charlie, Aubry, Joe, and Genenieve back though. Those are good ones.

With 24 I'm guessing 3 tribes of 8. And I'm guessing Joe, Ozzy, and Jonathan start on all different tribes. If they stick all 3 on 1 drive it would be a disaster in challenges for everyone else lol. At least until the puzzle section lol.

Jonathan is a less interesting James Clement. I know he's beloved by some of the fanbase, but Challenge beast is probably my least favorite archtype unless they extend past that such as Tyson. Who while great at challenges will always be remembered more for his sarcastic and snarky confessionals.

While Jeff def had significant impact. There was absolutely people who CBS pushed on him, hence why so many people feel burned. This is atleast the 2nd time he's been forced to take Ozzy on a season he didn't want him. I believe some of the new era push came from CBS, and there was no way this season was happening without them getting someone from Borneo or The Australian Outback with CBS overlooking.

I think my biggest issue with this cast even ignoring who they cast individually is this. It reminds me of the Gamechangers cast. Seasons like Winners at War, Second Chances and Heroes vs Villains had clear outlines of what they were trying to be. This season seems like they couldn't decide between two lanes and decided to just mush them together. On one side you have the legends or players from iconic seasons who weren't on Winners at War (Jenna, Colby, Stephenie, Cirie, Ozzy, Coach, Aubry,). Then you have the New Era and mid to late 30's players who fit a 2nd chance theme like (Mike White, Chrissy, Kamilla, Genevieve, Joe, Jonathan, the two 49ers potentially, Emily, Christian, Angelina, Devens) then randomly the two winners from the New Era (Kyle and Dee and potentially one of the 49 players). They basically had 3 different directions which is iconic players who've never won (so add in people like Jerri, Malcolm, Abi, Penner, Amanda, Courtney, etc.), New Era All Stars (bring in other new era winners like Yam Yam, Maryanne) or 2nd Chances 2 where you maybe get a couple older iconic one time players (say Greg Buis or T-Bird) and some other more recent ones post Game Changers (Dom, Jesse, Carolyn, Davie, Cydney,). I wish production sort of decided on one lane and committed to it, then used the other one for a returnee season in the early 50's)

I did not watch Survivor season 48 (or 46 or 47) but the news of the season 50 cast has me interested. I will definitely watch based on who is there. I fully expect that the old players will get decimated early on - the players from new seasons have more recent experience in the weird way survivor works now, they will be much more connected with each other, and they are going to believe that they have something to prove gong against far more popular players. I couldn't care less about any of the post season 40 players, but missing Carolyn (obviously due to The Traitors) is weak.

Of the players from before season 40 -

Coach: Thrilled to see him, one of my two favourite players ever. As much as fans talk about certain players having great arcs and it is almost always nonsense (Cops R Us is not an arc, for instance) Coach legitimately has a tremendous three season arc. Still looking forward to seeing him again though, he's great TV.

Cirie: Always enjoy seeing Cirie, so I'm in favour. It will be funny seeing the ways they come up with to not get her to legitimately partipate in challenges. I hope to see her paired up with that big dope from one of the 40s seasons at some point.

Jenna: Kind of interested in seeing her since she hasn't played in decades and was a trainwreck in life. Maybe the big villain they thought she would be way back in season 1 will emerge. Either way I am somewhat interested.

Colby: Colby's fall from grace from massive babyface hero in season 2 to a grumpy joke in season 20 was pretty funny and felt conclusive. Surprised he wanted to play again. I know he looks weird now due to plastic surgery and hosted some TV shows a while ago but other than that I have no idea what he's been up to. I'm somewhat interested.

Rick: Loved Rick. He absolutely carried an otherwise horribly boring season. Very charismatic. I expect that he will grate on people instantly but I'm very interested in seeing him again.

Stephenie: No real interest in seeing her, never found her interesting. Neutral on this.

Ozzy: Definitely no interest in him. The next interesting thing he says will be the first.

Chrissy: I'm randomly a fan of Chrissy, definitely interested in seeing her again. Really would have liked to have seen her on an earlier era where players were less cautious with their comments. Would like to see her become the villain she was obviously intended to be.

Angelina: Great pick, definitely looking forward to seeing her. One of the best characters of the 30s seasons.

Christian: Don't care about him at all. I get that he fulfilled a useful role in his season, at least if someone was taking the David vs Goliath gimmick as a serious thing, but I just don't care about him.

Mike: Didn't care about him at all on his first season, but I am kind of interested in him for meta reasons. That he is currently a fairly influential celebrity, running a very successful show and potentially casting whoever he wants, makes me curious to hear about how some of these people interact with him. By Probst's own admission Mike White pretty much cast himself on this season, and it's at least interesting to see a player in the game who called his own shot.

Aubry: Yawn. No interest. I would have thought that bringing her back twice would have demonstrated that there was not much in the well even the first time she played.

Overall I am happy enough with the pre-40 returnees. Biggest disappointment is the forced parity between pre and post season 40 players. If they wanted some kind of parity I'd rather roughly equal number of players from each group of ten seasons. With how terrible casting has become for the show there was no need to force recent players into half of the spots. I don't expect a particularly good season because it seems that the producers lost sight of what makes a compelling show many years ago. That changes of course if Coach manages to work his way into a spot on The White Lotus - instant top level season if that happens.

I can't believe you remember all these players so well, you sound like a syper fan and then suddenly quit watching wild turkey.

I wouldn't say that necessarily. I've watched in spurts. Big fan when it first aired for years. Dropped it for a few years, got back in before season 20 and watched again for years. Caught everything I missed during covid. The show had a big dip in quality post-30 and it got much worse from season 38 onward. Eventually I couldn't be bothered to watch the way things were going in the 40s seasons. I do recall all of the pre-40 players on this season quite well and am generally aware of what most of them have been up to since playing Survivor.

I recommend some of the international seasons though, better product than what the main franchise has been putting out for years. Some of the Australian/South African seasons are excellent, and I enjoyed New Zealand as well. I am very much looking forward to the new Australian season.

Where do you find the international survivors?

Various places, several that I don't think can be discussed here. Several Australian Survivor seasons are on youtube, as is the excellent South African season 6. Last one I watched was Australian Heroes vs. Villains, and that was on youtube and was really good.

Couldnt agree more. Its sad watching old seasons and comparing it to what we get nowadays. For some reason I still watch live though haha. Grew up watching the show from the beginning. I think the biggest break I took was when Blood v Water first aired. I didnt watch for like the first 8 weeks or so but then ended up binging and catching back up live  . I was able to fully drop big brother though.

I feel like the new era players will just all team up and take control of the game for season 50, kinda like what happened in WaW.

Yeah I will be very surprised if that is not what happens. The returnee seasons are always sketchy in terms of how many people know each other, but it is more of an issue now with how easy it is for these people to meet each other or keep in touch regularly. Add in that some players haven't played (or likely even watched) in over a decade and that the new players are inevitably going to be resentful of the more famous players... hard to see it going any other way. I don't think anyone should watch Survivor for a legitimate game though, just take in the entertainment. Coach, Angelina etc.

Too many 44-49 players imo. 20s got completely shut out. I have no interest in seeing Coach, Ozzy, Q or Cirie again.
I agree on the last 2. I'd say Coach is always good TV. Granted, I get he's not for everyone. I personally find him as one of the most hilarious (mostly unintentionally) players of all time.
