Scratched again tonight. That contract was bad before the ink dried this Summer. Nill mightve been feeling himself a little too much after b2b gm of the year wins

Goodrow and Vlasic will be possible buyout options for the Sharks depending on who is graduating provided they're healthy then but they're pretty long odds.

Clearing cap isn’t the only reason to buy-out a contract. He isn’t much of a top 9 forward anymore. Verbeek can admit the mistake and move on. I’m usually against buyouts, but this guy is cooked.
But then you’re pushing his cap hit into years where we might actually need the space. Benefits don’t outweigh the downsides here

GOALIES

Jarry
Grubauer
Merzlikins
Korpisalo (unlikely IMO)
Gibson (very unlikely IMO)
Kuemper (very unlikely IMO)

All are 2027 expiry contracts, except for Jarry and Korpisalo which are 2028.

He says, with real money that's not his own.

LOL I'm joking but for basically all owners they want to pay the least amount of actual money as possible and weighing the downsides will include that.

Ok sure but the Ducks are barely hovering over the floor and the Samueli's haven't made any indications they want to cut spending so you're just guessing that that would be a factor here

Palat in NJ probably gets some consideration, though I doubt they do it just yet.

I think it would be sooner than later. Costs about $6m to buy out 2 years and about $3m to buy out one (26/27).

Which is better...
25/26 have Palat at a $6m hit
26/27 recoup $3.3m in cap space
27/28 lose $1.65m in cap space

Or
25/26 recoup $2.47m in cap space
26/27 recoup $3.47m in cap space
27/28 lose $1.48m in cap space
28/29 lose $1.48m in cap space

I think with needing to resign Luke that the latter option would be better - barring the ability to make a trade to a floor team.
