I couldn't find an existing thread but curious if there's any likely names that jump out at this point of the season? Cap crunch is lifting so I wonder if there's fewer. Or on the other hand, maybe longer, more surprising buyouts that will depreciate with rising cap will be considered.

I’m starting to wonder if Buffalo would consider buying out Samuelsson this summer. I believe it would be a 1/3rd buyout. If I read it right on puckpedia the cap hit is 741k every year. That’s palatable and Buffalo can have Ryan Johnson step into his spot on the bottom pairing.

Yeah, buying him out would be stupid when a trade would get Buffalo assets.

Plus, he doesn't cost shit.

Who’s paying assets for an oft injured “defensive defenceman” who’s having trouble being a defensive defenceman with a cap hit of 4+ for another 5 or 6 years?

Plenty of teams. The guy is 24, has a proven track record as a shutdown option to star players, and make less than 5 million.

Trade? Ok
Buyout? You're nuts

Pretty sure the entire argument against his contract was that he hadn’t proven anything yet. And the more he plays the more it seems they may have jumped the gun giving him that contract. But hey, if someone wants to give up an asset for him then I’m all for it. But if you can’t find a dance partner, it makes sense to consider the buy out, since it’s cheap, and you have internal options to fill his spot.

Ok, I see where you're coming from.

I think Montreal is going to look to take some big swings this summer after what so far looks like a season of regression so could see an Anderson buyout on the table

Hed be a 1/3 buyout since hes under 26.

but I'd see them likely trading him in a large deal first before they would do a buy out.
