Sudbury Wolves 2024-25 Season Thread, Part IV

Provorov in particular was actually kind of funny. Just a "Yeah, wolves must love something about this guy" To be fair though, Darren in particular provides nothing of value in his analysis generally, just a lot of "good hockey IQ" "plays the game the right way"

Wolves grab a goalie to kick off day 2 Owen Leonard, from the titans, same team as their first rounder.
If you did a shot after every time he says 'plays the game the right way', you'd be dead by the middle of the 2nd round.

Through 8 picks the Wolves have only picked 4 players from within Ontario. don't remember the last time I saw anything even close to this. Times are changing in the OHL I guess.

Not sure the philosophy behind this draft. American players selected and our biggest guy has been our goalie at 6’0 feet.

And as the previous poster alluded to we don’t draft many out of the GTA.

Depends who is right, the OHL's listing or the wolves, per the wolves site(Sudbury Wolves 2025 OHL Draft Tracker - Sudbury Wolves) 5 of the players are 6 foot or taller.

Another American on the board Reese Tracy, wolves did not get the #BuyCanadian memo haha.

So out of 10 rounds Wolves picked 5 Americans. Could it be that our Ontario boys do not want to report to Sudbury?? Could it be that our "infamous" GM's reputation is causing Ontario boys to play elsewhere??

07 American born goalie, ranked 21st among NA goalies for this years NHL draft

Committed to Boston College for 26-27, one year stop gap in net? We're never developing a goalie again...

Do we only have an American Scout working today???

Cool after this coming year he's an OA, sign him as a FA not waste a pick on a player that would be in their 3rd year in the league. That's what the U18 draft is for.

He could be a good 1-2 year stopgap, but it certainly does not inspire confidence in the wolves committing to a rebuild this year. Feeling more like a third forced year of "going for it"
That's the only logical play to bringing in an 07 goalie. Which is a massive failure on the management for trying a 3rd year. Means they keep Walton, Mews and Villy all year and we open the new arena with a bottom dwelling team.

there would be no guarantee he would sing here as a FA. At least with drafting him we know we have his playing rights
You are right there is no guarantees but yes let's use an asset to prevent someone else from signing him for his likely only year in the league.

Other than 1st round fliers which give an additional asset a draft pick should be used on a player that can potentially help the team in a year or 2 and you feel you have a reasonable chance at signing.

There is one question i have as the vast majority of players in the priority draft are 09s and it's for @OHL4Life. Will players like Provorov and Cameron as an 08 and 07 respectively do they count towards the 3 priority draft rookies we can play?
