Sudbury Wolves 2024-25 Season Thread, Part IV

Delic was a beast out there tonight....sad to say he was the best hitter tonight. The guy is just so dedicated to winning and you can see his attitude even during their entry skate as he speeds past everyone. He will be missed.
Pharand was actually playing hockey and played very well wish he would have shown that all year.
Musty didnt disappoint with his ability to lose the puck four feet into the opponents zone. Ive never been a fan just because of his attitude towards his teammates, the coaching staff and the officials. I guess I was spoiled by watching Byfield and seeing how he handled himself and happily played for the sudbury wolves and it shows it in how he is successful in the nhl. Musty needs to mature considerably. And for those who dont like my comments about him talk to the billets and his school teachers.
Villeneuve though he gets into penalty trouble occasionally is one heck of a tough hockey player. His passion is unmatched and I look forward to seeing him next year.
Walton..not sure what I think of him. He is talented and uses an huge hockey stick. Played very well until the NHL draft then seemed to regress after being drafted. Reminded me of Justin Sefton that played really well and if you tried to enter the zone you would find yourself in about the 5 th row of the stands with his body checks. Once drafted he faded into obscurity and disappeared. I hope Walton doesnt follow the same path. Look forward to seeing him improve next year.
Coughlan is the Brad Marchand of the team...I wasnt a fan early on but now when he stays out of the box
is a force to be dealt with.
DeAngelis...I am a fan....calm and cool and doesnt get the praise he deserves...good luck in the future.
Mews...a waste of so many draft pics...talented yes but not worth the cost
Krawchuk ....after facing 31.5 shots a game over the regular season did extremely well considering what he had to face...I wish him well
Look forward to next year with Blonda.. Chitaroni..Henderson..Di Giantommaso..Clayton...extremely talented players that are the future of this club and I look forward to next year.
As far as coaching right now Barney is the man and I like what I see...Papineau has to go.
Ill step off my soapbox now....
I agree with most of this post, except where you question anyones "attitude" or "maturity". Talk to teammates, the Billet family, or just about anyone around the team...they'll tell you Musty came back a different person this season. He's the first to admit he made mistakes and learned some hard lessons. The growth he showed off the ice absolutely translated on the ice. You can choose to focus on the past if you want, but that doesn't reflect who Musty is now. He has "matured considerably" and will continue to do so along with every other kid on this team. Remember these gentleman leave home as kids, away from their family during a time when they're supposed to be taught how to adult. Growing up happens differently for everyone. As fans I believe you have the right to judge their game on the ice but it's unfair to judge the character of any of these kids based on what you heard without knowing them.

Very well stated and I couldn’t agree more.

Well, another disappointing end to the season, what’s that three sweeps in a row and on home ice to boot? At least North Bay gave their fans a win last night and against the top seed. In fact, I like the makeup of their team, watch them next season. We’ll never know now will but I would’ve really like to have seen them start Marshal. Yes Krawchuk for the most part played excellent but he always lets in bad goals and last night was a glaring example. Funny how things go, the Wolves were one shot away in game two and could’ve easily won last night then you have a tied series. Ultimately though it would’ve been quite an upset for the Wolves to beat Kingston as they finished almost 20 points ahead and are poised to try to make a run. Would’ve definitely needed an Ukko type tender. It’ll be interesting to see how they make out in the next round.
I guess the biggest question now is what does Zulich do with Papineau as I suspect Barney will be around next year and if that’s the case I for one want to see a lot more discipline. Well at least last night was a hard fought game.
Ultimately though groundhog day continues. Disappointing.
P.S. Gotta love Guidon. He’ll look real good as a Hab. Oui :thumbu:

I don’t think Marshall does any better than Krawxhuxk to be honest here. Nate had a .911% and 3.39 GAA through 3 games. I was sitting in section 2 and the amount of times that Kingston could glide from the blue line to the top of the dots (or right into the slot) and pick any spot on the net we’re too many to count.

Krawchuck definitely gave up some muffins this series but looking at all the Freebies Kingston had the Wolves should’ve been run out of the building in the first 3 games at least. And this is not even talking about the turnovers in the NZ.

Even if Marshall doesn’t give up the gimmes, Kingston had so many other chances I think the scoreboard is defiantly uglier. Add that to giving up nearly 40 shots a game.

Not sure about last game. Played very well in game two only to give up a horrible goal that lost us the game. Three bad goals last night. Ultimately for me they overshadow the good play. These aren’t so so goals man they’re bananas. Almost every one between the glove and body. Total momentum swingers. Standout goalies don’t do that. Can’t be giving up muffins with regularity, especially in the playoffs and as an underdog to boot. Watch Mcivor in North Bay. Night and day. They could easily be TIED in that series! One vs eight! Look at the shots. That’s likely the last of any real meaningful hockey for him. Definitely has capability but maybe loses focus and ultimately doesn’t seem to have the nerves. Watch Marshall next season if he’s back. I’ll predict he’ll do well. It’s on Barney no to have tried something different. Also is it me or does he seem just a little too comfortable with losing. We may not have won the series but maybe would’ve got a game or two. We’l never know now.

Last we'll see of
Delic
DeAngelis
McCoy
Krawchuk
Ziliotto

99% chance the last we'll see of:
Musty
Molnar

Likely gone to OA Crunch:
Street
Ewles

Maybe the last we'll see depending on what NCAA rumors you believe:
Mews
Villeneuve
Walton

End of another season, cheers to everyone.
If this is indeed what happens, it’s a complete rebuild. No scorers, top two D gone, one goalie, low picks, Brutal

This is why some of us were against the buying of Mews and Roberts.

Right now if Mews, Walton and Villy come back they lead for half the season before you try and move them and yes you can potentially recoup assets for them but need the right GM for the job. Because the rebuild was put off we need to be flawless in the offseason and deadline. Already being behind North Bay significantly will be difficult for our future.

I wouldn’t agree with Ewles being gone, Ziliotte and Pharand are either tradable assets or could be back as OAs. Walton isn’t going no where, Villy will most likely get signed soon and I expect him to play some early games with the Kraken but he’ll be back. Mews is only 18yrs old, yes I’ve heard the rumours about Michigan but two things: Is he good enough to play? The young man still has a lot to learn about D Zone play. Secondly, if Calgary signs him they will dictate the next team he plays on.
Just like this season was never met to go for it, next season is the start of the rebuild.
We have some nice young D coming up (Wreggitt, Kearns, Smith and Connors) to join Blonda and O’Dell( potentially Ewles and or Roberts). Ad in Coughlan as a definite OA, with Villy and Walton till at least the deadline. Pick 3 stud monster forwards in top 38 picks and we’re cooking….
This will be starting off point for Barney and company to build and reshape the team for the next 4-5 years.
Sun came up yesterday, I’m good and still on board.

I think the wolves need find a team where Mews and Villenueve want to play prior to next season. Do not tempt fate like the team did with Musty.
An easy re-tool for NB was nearly a given. They started the season with at least 6-‘06s; and got to sell-off the entire top scoring line of a year ago, five players that had three consecutive trips to a conference final.

NB knows how to do it, they are proactive, have a vision, and at the same time remain competitive.

Zillioto is not a tradeable asset, he's committed to play for RPI in the NCAA next season. I think they're only keeping one of Eweles and Roberts. I think the OAs are pretty locked in as Pharand, Coughlan and Roberts.

Zillioto can delay his transfer to NCAA, possible but not likely so I agree with you. Assets/picks given up for Roberts were conditional, does anyone know the conditions? If we select younger brother Sam then Noah stays. Or he may get traded to SM’s new team. Ewles is a tradable asset or he stays. Pharand, not sure what to say here, other than he is a local player who may opt for school.. or be an OA.
Also condition on some picks for Mews, anyone know those conditions. Let’s not forget he is only 18yrs old.

We need to draft a goalie with one of those top 40 picks. We can't keep trading picks for Goalies. Ranger cost us a 4th and Purboo was a 3rd, 2x 4ths and a conditional 5th for example. We were lucky with Weeks and Krawchuck to an extent in the U18 Draft and don't know what Beites may be. Our goalies this year are likely Marshall, Chartier or Beites, then next season likely Beites and a goalie drafted this year if Beites comes back. At the moment we have no 3rd until 2027 and other than getting a 2nd back from the Hage trade we have no seconds until 2029 so goalie needs to be now.

On defence I'd imagine we are looking at Roberts, Mews, O'Dell, Blonda, Wreggit, Smith and Kearns. So agree don't need to draft a dman with the first 3 picks. If things stay as they are, lots of potential but lots to learn to.

Last time we had 3 top 40 picks we took McCallum at 15, Stillman at 25 and Larmand at 26.

If we are lucky and I mean lucky we could get Chitironi at 11 and Roberts at 38. Roberts likely is available at 38 though.

Let’s hope Brampton comes back against the Gens. GM James Richmond traded Ryerson Leenders, Coben Bryan and 30 picks (1 conditional) for their run this season. That’s 8x2nds, 7x3rds and 6x4ths…with 7 other lower picks.
Brought in Connor Smith, Brayden Gillespie,Allison, Chase Lefebvre, Jacob Gibson, Spencer Sova and Rehkopf.
And we think we are hard done by….this is what it takes to TRY to win. No guarantees in hockey. Let’s see how this turns out.

Generally picks on 19 year olds are conditional on OA Season for example the 3rd we gave up with Taylor last year for McCoy would have been conditional on returning this year.

As for Mews it would be harder to tell but those conditionals were the later round picks and could relate to how long his in the ohl or how deep a run they had.

Neither Chitironi or Roberts are making it to 11 and 38.

Good chance Chitironi slides into the Top 5, and even if he doesn't, he doesn't make it past NB/Soo

As good of a chance as the wolves have ever had at acquiring a player choosing the defect route though.

I agree with you on Chitironi like I said if we were really lucky. As for Roberts some rankings have him ranked at 32 for Ontario based Skaters, that's not including US based, so that's more of a toss up.
