Sudbury Wolves 2024-25 Season Thread, Part III

3 years ago he was Assistant GM, When the let Duncanson go they made him Interm until they Hired Derek Mackenzie. When Derek left before last season they made him Head Coach as well. Probably had another year on his contract so instead of firing him they moved him to a less hands on role
Perhaps

Myself I am a season ticket holder, when I can't be there i watch on TV. I have watched in the last 5 minutes being up Waltons line out, they come off and Villys line goes out, when they come off its Waltons line right back out there. First 5 minutes and same goes for the defence was McCoy and DeAngelis then it would be O'Dell ans Ewels. It ain't false and yes I site close enough to the bench that I can see it. The line comes off and doesn't even sit down, they are ready to bounce right back over the boards.

Yes we have played Henderson, Clayton, Dean, Doucet for a time on the PK and it was great, I get Clayton is out but to be missing him and the pk completely flip and then taking Dean out another part of the PK. I have seen Musty ok the PK and I don't think that's a road we should be going do

so you are going to put 4th line in last 5 minutes of the game when your down? You have 3 high end scorers in Musty, Delic and Walton, you will sit them when your team is down? Walton top 5 scorer, you are going to put Street on to get you that goal.? I don't mind Musty on the PK especially if we are down, he could get you that short handed goal, and it will help him in his overall game.

We have two scoring lines, 3rd line is more of a checking line, 4th line is mish mash of energy and youth. If our 4th line was highly talented then different story.

Did i say when we are down? I said we were doing it when we are leading or tied. There is no need to run 2 lines in the first 5 minutes of the 1st period or the last 5 minutes when you are leading and that is exactly what they have done for most of the season.

I don't think you know anything about last change at home ice, and matching lines and taking advantage of match ups. Leave the coaching to 3 former NHL'ers and you can coach houseleague.

I'm talking about on the fly changes, I know about matching lines and last change. We are saying it is very possibly based on the usage that these lines are worn down.

Im concerned how much we are struggling to move the puck out of our defensive zone quickly with nice outlet passes. Seems like pucks get intercepted, we bobble it in our feet, pass to stationary players at the line to only have it tuned over. I hate to say it but Jackson was our best skater and puck moving dman.

The lines made no sense to me today.

Keep Musty with Villy and Molnar.

Walton Delic Pharand as much as they have disappeared I would move Coughlan up and Pharand down. But Walton with Mustj is just weird combo. They don’t mesh.

WJ
Sorry, but the way Walton is playing he should be stapled to the bench. Or if he plays bottom 6 with limited minutes. Absolutely no effort anywhere on ice. Not winning any puck battles (ever) and now a turnover machine.

you never been on the board much, to come and push your falsehood, you must be family member to someone on the fourth line. Obviously you have not watched the team all season, everyone has a role on the team, how many coaches would play rookies on their PK?

The issue we have been down most games recently, our fourth line has a role, but it is not a line is going to score you many goals, take a look at stats on this roster. if the team is up they will get more time, if team is down, they will see less n

Been a wolves fan for a few years now since I moved to Sudbury and just found this forum not to long ago. Not a family member, and i’ve watched every game since the season started.
I know what I see and you can say otherwise, but I’m not the only one on this board and in general because people talk, that has said they overplay their lines and that they look gassed during certain games. My issue is about depth in the playoffs and not overworking your top guys who you’ll need in the playoffs and the way to do that is give the third and fourth line some more minutes and have trust in them, so when the playoffs come you got all four lines rolling when the real grind starts because it WILL be a grind. Playoffs are a different animal. I want our top guys healthy and strong come playoff time

Agree. Exactly what I see as well, but I’m delusional I guess

Walton is your best player. Musty is the most toxic arrogant kid in the league, second only to your newest edition Henry Mews! Walton played great till Musty came back. Should’ve traded musty at the deadline, he’s a forward version of Ryan Merkley. Sudbury will be making another 1st round exit again, and then many years of suffering lie ahead. Enjoy Walton the hometown boy while you can, he’s going to the big leagues one day.

And that’s the point I was trying to make. You don’t want to wear them down before playoffs come

If 18, 19, 20 year old burnt out, who only played 2 games this week then we have another problem.

I find it funny all your post is about two lines playing time, I call B.S. you don't bring up anything else with regards to the team.

It’s not about two lines playing time, it’s about not wearing out our best guys because we’re going to need them in the playoffs, and I can see that they are getting worn out. Our speed hasn’t been there, our forecheck hasn’t been there, we’re losing punk battles and turning over pucks. And I don’t think it has anything to do with the three new additions. They just look slower. It looks to me like they’re tired. If you don’t agree then we’ll just have to agree to disagree.

Can someone you cares enough to keep stats on Wolves players please post Walton’s stats the last 11-12 games. Goals, assists and plus/minus, if available. The eye test is horrific but I’m an old man and maybe my eyes are fooling me….stats will confirm what I’m seeing or not seeing.
Thanks

In the Jan 12 game, Musty's return Walton had 2g and 1a and +1. In the 5 games since he has just 1g and is -11. Ouch.

Delic much the same. Jan 12 game had 1g and 2a and a +2. Since then just 1a and a -10. Ouch x2

Pharand 3a and +2 on Jan 12. Since then zero points and a -6. Strike 3.

Losing streak rather evident.

So I guess my eyes aren’t that bad after all…-11 in last two weeks. Winnipeg is gonna be super impressed.
Thanks Wiserbud.

Do you have Molnar’s stat line?

Only thing wearing down are egos of some players who are playing for personal stats and not the team..
Gotta put a drop box outside dressing room so some players can check/deposit their egos outside the room and start playing for the betterment of the team. Not gonna name players but recent stats and effort speaks volumes…
NHL team’s aren’t dumb, they know when their prospects take misconducts or only play in OZone with zero back pressure or ineffective DZone play.
It’s not my style to be overly critical on players but it is soooo clear it’s troubling and effecting the entire team.
Don’t get me started on the unnecessary turnovers…

Team seems very ordinary since the Gms decision at the deadline to keep all the OAs, keep Musty, and to go with present goaltending. Somewhat similar to last year at this time going with Vondras and Vandenberg.
Goaltending alone was enough to lose this game. I understand we only scored two goals but it’s WHEN you get the saves that count. He didn’t even come out to challenge the shooter on the third goal and was outplayed again, this time by a rookie!. I’ve seen this script before. We generated a lot of chances but our guys couldn’t finish to save their lives. Walton only visible for defensive blunders. Nothing out of Pharand, don’t even notice this Roberts guy. Zero expectations now unless some serious changes happen. Again as for Krawchuk, for me he just isn’t a money goalie thus any blunders are liable to end up in the net. Where are you Ukko…

Maybe we can have list of potential GM's that will be available season end. Perhaps some good assistant GM's in the league that are ready for the next step.
