Who specifically do you have in mind? The winger market completely collapsed last off-season, Dadonov went to Ottawa for 3 years/5m because that would have been the best offer he got. We got Crawford to sign and honestly Fitz will likely to be even more inclined to be generous with AAV for a UFA goalie this off-season.

Getting a Kulikov level defensemen or two isn’t a problem either but the high end defensemen market might stay strong because those guys will likely be in demand and get big deals no matter what. Defense will be the biggest puzzle. (Though third line center is also a question.)
Getting one NHL quality backup goalie, RD and top 6 LW are our biggest priorities. Foote 100% graduates and takes a top 6 role by the end of the season I think. I am fine with Siegenthaler going into the year if he has an adequate RD partner.

I think LD is just as big of a problem. We have Subban and Severson on the right but right now only Siegenthaler and Butcher? Puke.

I am talking about next season. We have Smith, Murray and a glut of promising young LD that are a year or two away IMO. I am comfortable trying Siegenthaler next year.

Why ask what I think? You have all the answers. Good luck with that prediction of yours.

Six shots with not a single dangerous one as usual. Whereas mcleod line busy taking defensive zone starts against crosby line. Wow

Oh yes...Mcleod is truly a superstar in the making. Wow. :silly:

Man...If it isn't Kiekko, it's you. And if it isn't you, it's Kiekko.

Could always count on either of you for Bratt-bashing and Mcleod worshipping....

Other people made predictions too, feel free to make yours or you can stick with vague negativity. It’s up to you.

The only points on UFAs I would flat out disagree with is are 1) no one will sign here 2) Fitz won’t try to sign anyone 3) the winger market won’t be at least super soft, considering it completely imploded last season.

There are are lot of things I’m not sure of, including which exactly which players Fitz will expose or protect in the expansion draft. I have guesses but he may surprise/disappoint/confuse me there.

Yeah don’t even think it, much less say it, you are right. And actually I like his attitude even the frustration with losing or missing a net. His commitment to the defensive game this season and working on what he needs to also, as in shooting more and becoming less pass first since mid season. He’s just what you’d want him to be.
This is also Eichel’s sixth season and it’s not clear if he’s just unhappy, frustrated or actually pushing for a trade. Eichel was basically injured all season and his season ended when he had surgery on a herniated disc in his neck. It’s been a bad experience for Eichel in a different way.

Everyone is working on the assumption that some improvements, like a non-retiring tandem goalie plus other moves, will get us more wins. I’m not worried Jack is going to quit on his NHL team at age 19 (or 20), no other top pick has.

Question: will they come to the Devils as UFA?

Would you? Beautiful Newark, a perennial non-playoff club and one of the highest taxed states in America. Not to mention one of the hardest hit states in terms of Covid-19.

Devils best bet is some shrewd trades and building from within.

Asking me, "Would you?" My answer would be hell no based on what you described, because I would like to play in the playoffs the year I sign or no longer than the next year.

Other fans don't think those things you pointed out, are problems.

What is a "Devil's shrewd trade?"

I don't think good UFAs players will want to come to the Devils. I think they will feel they will have to wait too long to play in the playoffs. We have different opinions, "Like a 9 game losing stretch" vs yours.
