Subban is a hell of a d-man, and I love the way he plays the game.

That said, I don't want to break the bank on him. Anything over 7.5 million is an overpayment, because his value shouldn't be seen as double pacioretty, or much higher than price.

I get he is our best player, but I would rather go in another direction if Subban insists on north of 8 million.

it would be an unpopular decision, but I would try to move him to a team like edmonton or florida. they have some pieces/picks that are interesting, and would be crazy not see that subban makes their team better.

all that said, if his playoffs are exceptional, he leads us to the cup finals and puts up a worthy conn smythe effort. well by god. you pay the man because of what he can do in the big show.

8 years at 7.6 million per - done and done. If Subban wanted more than that he would have picked a higher number

Please tell me, who replaces him?

i'm not sure. that's the gm's job. You would think they could trade for a young dman, prospect, and maybe 1 or 2 1st rounders.

let's say Phoenix:

Yandle, (d prospect) and a 1st.

I think it makes us better, and I think it puts the coyotes into a better spot to win a cup.

So, it's the GM's job to say who replaces Subban, but you're happy in your own ability to determine his cap worth?

And, no, having Yandle instead of Subban does not 'make us better'.

I'm saying I don't no what's out there.

it's not yandle for subban. it's yandle plus for subban.

teams like florida, edmonton, winnipeg could bring in an excellent haul for subban, that would make us more complete.

again, I don't no, maybe anahiem would like him and we could end up with fowler, their two 1st and a forward prospect. I don't no.

I just no I would try to move subban if he wants north of 8 million, unless nobody wants him to pay for him.

Do you want Vanek or another elite Winger on this team?

Blow the bank on Subban and we are back to the team we have been for the last several years. A team without an elite goal scorer.

If we buyout Bourque, trade Eller and don't resign Gio... can't we fit both?

It's obvious the Habs doesn't want to go higher than 7m per. We are going to get ****ed big time by an offer sheet. Just watch.

Are you suggesting we low ball him or not sign him at all?

How does that make us better? Subban is by miles our best d-man and also our top offensive player. Aren't these the kind of players you break the bank on?? And MB job isn't to put the Coyotes in a better spot to win a cup - that's Don Maloney's job.

We can always add 1 more year than any mother team can and depending on the team, an offer sheet might not be all that bad. What is it, 5 1st from a bottom dweller could be worth more than PK has to offer. i.e buffalo, islanders, oil, Calgary are all going to be bottom 5 teams for awhile.

Phaneuf 7M cap hit.

Also, what Pacioretty makes has absolutely nothing to do with what Subban will make. Can't compare different positions. Even if you could, it's widely known that Pacioretty's previous agent did a disservice to his client by not getting more for him. Such a horrible deal for Patch and an amazing one for the habs.

At this point, I actually fear that all of Markov, Gionta, Eller and possibly Vanek will have contracts before Subban does. :banghead:

It seems clear that they are not negociating right now and I doubt a deal is signed during the playoffs.

An offersheet at 8x8M would actually be a good thing. Force them to sign Subban long term.

If Bergevin is not capable of handling that properly, I'd want him fired.

Assuming it was a bottom dwelling team tendering an offer sheet (could just as easily be a top team), it is likely that the addition of PK would make said team a heck of a lot better ie: not a bottom dweller anymore. But sure, give away our best dman since Chelios for such mid first gems such as Fischer, Leblanc, Chipchura, ect...

Agreed. Letting PK leave via offer sheet would rank up there with McDo for Gomez and Roy/Keane for toilet water.

Well, you have to guess that the Habs would match. :help:

But that would still be completely head banging. You don't sign your best Dman because somebody forces you to do so, you sign him because you value him properly.

i think it opens more doors for other players, and i also think vanek signs here. the yotes are loaded on d, if you could take yandle and one who plays the right side (stone or gormley)it be huge. yandle would fill in the pp role, and subban already sees limited pk time.

i want pk, just not for 8 million

Or maybe there is a difference between unrestricted free agents and restricted free agents and that's why RFAs tend to get signed later, no matter who your GM is?

That bridge was burned when they lowballed him on the bridge contract...

Unfortunately, it seems you also suffer from acute overvaluingcapspaceitis syndrome.

We should do a fundraiser for you guys. Maybe we can mix that with all the guys suffering of hyposecoundrounderophobia (fearing the absence of 2nd round pick).

Please donate so we can help these poor guys live a better life!
