Missed the game. What was the overall consensus?

Did we do better than on Saturday?

Was it more exciting game-wise?

Who fared well/improved from last game/did worse/didn't fare well overall?

IMHO, much better than Saturday - very encouraging. Better play by most, played a simpler game overall, Pavs played well, team played a physical game.
Much more exciting: nail biter!
Kane, Jokinen looked much better today. Postma wasn't bad - some nice shots from the point, but man, that Clitsome / Postma pairing scares me. 3rd line was looking good, Scheifele was buzzing around out there too. Helped create some havoc that lead to Thorbs goal. Hmm: 4th line, with 3rd line pairing that ended up with the only goal - interesting.

Bring on the Caps!

Pav or Montoya tomorrow? Personally feel a goaler should never play back to back. Too many times last year we saw pav play back to back after having a great game and stinking it up.

I don't think Pavs got tested too hard, though. I would like to see Monty start the next game, though.

Sucks to only get the loser point in that one, especially with our propensity to lose in back-to-backs. Ah well, that's the way she goes sometimes. Overall, a much better effort than vs. Ottawa, especially the 3rd period I thought the Jets stepped their game up.

For a team that had a god awful road record last season...I was pretty happy with the result. It's too bad little winged it off thd post.

Once they figure out that PP, this team will be dynamite.

Even though we didn't necessarily deserve to win that game I'm dissapointed we didn't steal it. We had the chances.

Ladd and Wheeler in the doghouse until further notice.

Would rather have Pavelec get the nod tomorrow. He had pretty good success against the Caps last season. Montoya should be pencilled in for the Islanders game on Sunday.

I'd rather start Pav tbh. Washington is a very offensive team, so we'll need to be on our best and that means Pavs needs to be outstanding. I don't think a back up will cut it.

Absolutely. The Isles are a weaker team, and by that time we should be properly warmed up I actually play some good hockey and not need to rely on the tender as heavily.

Pavelec plays too deep in the net on shootouts.

He needs to practice shootouts more & be more aggressive with a challenge or with poke checks.

What I really liked about this game was the hustle. The timing was still a bit off, there were some mistakes both offensively and defensively, but today it really seemed like they wanted the win, unlike against Ottawa.

Really liked both Burmi's and Scheifele's game today. I still think Scheifele look a bit weak, but I hope he can provide some offense.

Can someone give me a run down of the Jets lines in the 3rd? Where was Scheifele used?

I didn't see the season opener, but from what I've read, Postma had a much better game today. Toby had a couple bad fumbles that scared the **** out of me, and I thought Buff looked good. Much more defensively responsible than I'm used to seeing. LLW were invisible, and Ladd in particular wasn't noticeable except when he was making pizzas..

I hate shootouts more all the time, and forgot how much I dislike Marchand.. I'll take this point and run with it.

Just watched the replay of the shootout and what really stood out was Pavs just about standing on the goal line, move out a foot.

It was Burmi, Schief and Poni in the 3rd but since there was PP and Pk in the 3rd, He really didn't play that much.

Most of the league seems to have the book on him, which is to start slowing down at the hash marks, get him backed in, and roof it.

Scheif also had a shift in OT. Overall it was much improved from Saturday, but when you have two goals in two games - and none from your top 9(or 11 for that matter) - somethings wrong. But they did show a lot more creativity with breakouts and gaining the offensive zone. C's were waiting for wingers to catch up before crossing the line, etc...

Personally I think Burmi is finally showing what he can do. He showed a lot of creativity with the puck, including that backwards give and go through the neutral zone.

Wheeler had a better game than the stats show. Had a good hit on Seguin that irritated Chara, and later drew the penalty.

To be fair, all the year's Pavs have been a starter, he has started terribly bad in the shootouts and improved towards the end. I think he just forgets how to do it in the off-season.

Evander Kane. He screwed up the PP late in the game and in OT. Can't make simple passes, no vision to see the open man, etc just not a PP player.

Kane needs to be in front of the net on the PP. The only reason he should leave the front is if someone else is driving in or to cycle the puck on the endboards.

If Scheifele is gonna play 9 minutes a game, he should go back. Let him have some success and be "the guy" for a playoff run. Can we not at least use him as a PP specialist? He's the only true facilitator we have.
