Post-Game Talk: Stupendous Stu offsets the broken Hyman

I’ve watched back the Hyman hit many times now and Marchment tried to take his head off and goes through his hands/stick. I just don’t see how this is a major injury unless I’m missing something?

Edit: maybe there’s another angle I haven’t seen yet but just doesn’t add up.

What does any of that have to do with the type of hockey thats being played in this series? I’m not suggesting Jones is going to score goals in this series, he isn’t. What I think he can bring is a physical presence and help prevent goals against. I’m certain Skinner can’t bring that and I’m not convinced he’s tough enough or strong enough to get himself into position to score against Dallas.
You do know Jones was in the minors before getting traded here, right? He wasn’t in the minors because he was an NHL player that prevents goals and is physical. Jesus Christ. Skinner is actually very greasy - and you may want to check from where he scored most of his goals.

Are you seriously comparing Jeff Skinner and his 1 career playoff game to Corey Perry and his 220 or so playoff games. I’d suggest there’s a reason both of these guys have the numbers they do. Good grief.
I’m comparing speed. Also, Skinner has had more productive years more recently than Perry. To suggest speed is a concern is laughable. You also suggested Jones- who was in the minors because he couldn’t make a bad Bruins team, be inserted in the lineup over an NHL veteran with more than 1000 games and multiple 30 and 40 goal seasons. Then you suggested this player wasn’t tough enough. Good grief

I don’t mind seeing j. Skinner back in but I also wouldn’t mind a Matt Savoie appearance. Right shot with skill and tenacity. He could make an impact imo.

I think it jammed his wrist. Could also be his hand.

Not sure I like the oilers chances against Florida without Hyman.
Why? I don’t get the liw know belief in this team at this point. Hyman is a warrior but just 1 guy isn’t going to tilt it much. Nothing is easy but they can beat the cats, they weee the better team last year and are better this yr

To think that we ALMOST traded Draisaitl, a first-round pick, one of Klefbom or Nurse, and a prospect that was never named for him.

Shudders…

Let's. F*cking. Go!

Absolute gutcheck character playoff win. Weathered Dallas' storm and some absolutely horseshit reffing to win this one and go up 3-1. This is a f*cking mature group, no question. No passengers. Everybody ropes, everybody rides.
Thats the one major thing I have noticed is the maturity. Team is deep. Arvidsson came in last night and I thought he played great. Hopefully Skinner can do the same if need be. I'm not a religious man but I'm praying for Hyman. Need him if we play Florida
Dont think I will be a critic of any moves by GM now. This is a better team then last year. Depth

I don’t think either one of these guys are a great option. If either were they’d already be playing. I’d prefer to insert the player thats likely to cause the least damage. To me thats Jones playing limited fourth line minutes over Skinner playing heavier top six minutes.

We are winning these games because we’re a hard team to play against. I don’t think we lose that with Jones on the fourth line. Jeff Skinner is not hard to play against. Maybe you get some offence from him and maybe you don’t but will it make up for what he gives up in a tight game? He had a chance to impress in game 1 against LA and got 1 assist and was a team worst -2 (on the ice for 3 goals against) in just 11:12 of ice time. Not all his fault I’m sure but I question his commitment to detail in a team game. There’s chaos when he’s on the ice.

I’m just giving my opinion. I’m not the guy making the decisions on who plays and who doesn’t. Just pointing out the risk and reward. Hyman injury aside I’m in a good mood tonight and not really interested in getting in a fight with a poster I KNOW is an Oiler fan and wants the team to win as much as I do.

If Knoblach decides to go with Skinner and give him another shot I’ll be fine with it. It’s a lot easier to take a chance on a player (whomever it may be) when you’re up 3-1 in a series than it is when you’re tied or even worse trailing 3-1. We’ve got some wiggle room if we stumble.

I hate looking past any seies because there are no guarantees, but on the flip-side, Reinhart is still out for the Panthers.
Neither team is going to be 100%. Sure helps that Carolina took game 4, I didn’t see that coming. Would be nice to see them extend this series even more and continue to wear down the Panthers.

Some interesting reading in this thread:

I enjoyed this comment:

Oilers fans are mostly just super casual hockey fans that don't know shit about the game.

And this one:

So, I'm guessing that the "Bouch for Norris" talk has settled down.........

.........a shadow of last years performance.

Carrying on right where he left off in the regular season. He'll put up points, but he'll cost you more. Jesus he's bad. Pretty clear that Ekholm is stirring that drink.

And of course:

He {referencing McDavid] for sure will leave that poverty franchise ASAP and go to a place that has a winner to carry him to a cup.
There is a moral to this story. Sometimes it is best to just shut up and let things play out.

I think you have to put Noah Philip in at some point. Henrique is struggling with his minutes at 3C, Janmark is not a natural C, and Nuge is playing too well to take him out of the top 6. We can get by vs Dallas, but Florida’s 3rd line of Luostorainen-Lundell-Marchand is eating teams alive. If we make it to the final, the top 6 battle will be close , especially without Hyman. We’ll need a faster C than Rico to face that Florida 3rd line, which is really another 2nd line for them.

Assuming Hyman is done and Brown is back soon, you can run this lineup, and increase Philip’s minutes if Henrique continues to struggle. Either that or Nuge at 3C:

RNH-Mcdavid-Perry
Kane-Leon-Kapanen
Podkolzin-Henrique-Brown
Frederic-Philip-Janmark
They might go Ryan instead. I hope not.

Deboer looked absolutely demoralized in the post-game presser.

Not sure why anyone said he was complaining about penalties. He was asked about the penalties his team took, and said he didn't hate any of them, and blamed his players more than refs. Said Perry took the same penalty Benn did so it was evenly called.

I think Deboer's downfall this series is inability to make the tactical adjustments Nobby and Coffey are able to make. It's like our coaching is 1-step ahead of him.

I think they're playing a system like Florida where they're trying to establish a heavy forecheck, but all of our dmen lob a hail-mary to center ice where we have more puck support and numbers. It's exhausting all of their forwards, and they're caught behind the puck half the time furiously skating back.

(I noticed the Hurricanes copied this strategy in their last game which lead to their win).

Am I the only one that wouldn't hate Derek Ryan drawing in? I've always thought he raised his game in the playoffs.

Yes, he's limited but he is capable of smart, low event hockey. He can kill penalties and take some faceoffs. He doesn't replace Hyman or Brown but he gives a coach 7-8 minutes of dependable, no panic hockey.

I'd be fine with him too.

Lots of good options for this team
