Post-Game Talk: Stupendous Stu offsets the broken Hyman

What does any of that have to do with the type of hockey thats being played in this series? I’m not suggesting Jones is going to score goals in this series, he isn’t. What I think he can bring is a physical presence and help prevent goals against. I’m certain Skinner can’t bring that and I’m not convinced he’s tough enough or strong enough to get himself into position to score against Dallas.
Jones isn’t good defensively… how would he prevent goals?

The reality is he would be the worst player on both rosters and it would show in his 5 minutes of ice time.

Jones may be physical, but I definitely don't view him as being good in the preventing goal aspect of the game. He's a tweener at best.

Dallas definitely outplayed us in the first (albeit I think the penalties really impeded our ability to gain some traction). After the first, Dallas didn’t really have anything in the tank. They had 15 even strength shots in the first and just 5 the rest of the game. We not only shut it down in the 3rd but did so while pushing the pace and forcing Dallas to be on their heels. Skinner and Nuge great once again. 1 more win until we return to the finals!

The way I've seen Dallas in this series is they will push extremely hard for 1 period, and if the Oilers can keep them in check, the Oilers win the game. It's crazy how the Oilers choked them out offensively in the 3rd period. Dallas couldn't get anything going much the whole period.

Dallas has been reliant on their powerplay the whole playoffs too. Poor 5x5 team.

Meanwhile here was Slewban's bracket.
Also picked Edmonton to lose to VGK after we beat the kings. Eat shit, PK. Guy's still salty that the Oilers had no interest signing him as a free agent which set him to retirement.

Here's him placing us as 8th best in the west playoffs teams ranking. Dumb ass.

I’m shocked anybody anywhere ever thought PK Subban knew anything about anything.

Heres a funny thought. Jeff Skinner has been HS all playoffs. In the Dallas lineup he'd be getting regular minutes and probably on the PP.

Conversely Duchene and Johnson wouldn't even be dressing on the Oilers squad. Something to ponder.

Then theres guys like Dadonov. What do they even do? Stars have quite a few duds in the lineup, forwards and D. Doesn't help them that Rantanen is giving his best Petterson impression. The only highlights for him in the series is him getting drilled with open ice hits.

To think that we ALMOST traded Draisaitl, a first-round pick, one of Klefbom or Nurse, and a prospect that was never named for him.

I’m trying to remember what year that was.

I’m going to assume that was the weekend before the Monday following the Friday that Craig Mactavish told the hockey world that the Oilers were open for business and everything was on the table that Bob Nicholson publicly declared him self the head of hockey ops and that no moves were coming.

Even if it wasn’t we really dodged a bullet not making that move.

It was back in 2016. Bergevin demanded that package for Subban, and the Oilers (smartly) said no thank you.

I hadn't seen Subbans bracket before, he got 2 out of 8 right for the second round? Wow, that's an analyst!

I think you have to put Noah Philip in at some point. Henrique is struggling with his minutes at 3C, Janmark is not a natural C, and Nuge is playing too well to take him out of the top 6. We can get by vs Dallas, but Florida’s 3rd line of Luostorainen-Lundell-Marchand is eating teams alive. If we make it to the final, the top 6 battle will be close , especially without Hyman. We’ll need a faster C than Rico to face that Florida 3rd line, which is really another 2nd line for them.

Assuming Hyman is done and Brown is back soon, you can run this lineup, and increase Philip’s minutes if Henrique continues to struggle. Either that or Nuge at 3C:

RNH-Mcdavid-Perry
Kane-Leon-Kapanen
Podkolzin-Henrique-Brown
Frederic-Philip-Janmark
