Let me check my crystal ball and see his stats for the rest of this season and next.

Ya, this is too far out to discuss numbers on his next contract. Still nearly 2 more seasons to go on his current deal. We can't predict that far out.

Especially for a goalie, as goalies are voodoo. Especially for this particular goalie, as Skinner has always been streaky.

Next season is his final year. With Swayman, Shesterkin, Ullmark all signing, what does Skinner get in the open market? Can he get $5M/per like Adin Hill got?

In my mind, Skinner is a 1A/1B 50-game platoon starter at this point until proven otherwise. I'd take prime Talbot over him, but they are close in value/profile. If you've got Skinner, you need another goalie (either established 1B vet, or young upstart) to push him while you decide whether he's your long-term solution.

I'd do another bridge-type deal in the $4-5M range... but with the cap rising, I can easily see it being $5-6M... not a fan of that, but it's reality.

And agree with others, it all depends what happens this (and next) playoffs. If he's solid, he's gonna get (over)paid.

I wouldn't sign him for more than 3.25 and no longer than 2 years.

I like that if we can get it... I somehow doubt it though.

Hoping to see us promote Rodrigue as Skinner's full time backup next year (which means he needs a test drive at the end of the season), and move one of our other recently drafted goalies into the starter role in the AHL.

We gotta start churning these guys into positions where they can grab the bull by the horns and force their way into the NHL (or we move on to the next guy). If we'd done that with Skinner, maybe Mike Smith signs on for one more year as mentor and we don't even make the Campbell mistake? Then we coulda afforded to insulate Skinner with a Jake Allen/Talbot type mentor-backup and had an established option to take the pressure off Skinner in the last two playoffs.

I think he's going to have to setttle for a short prove it contract. He has 0 consistency in his game.

He's either great, or one of the worst goalies in the NHL at equal measure.

And contrary to popular belief, the Oilers defense has been statistically very good the past two years.

He could sign for anything between 2 and 6 million and I wouldn't be surprised. NHL teams value goalies incredibly strangely already and he's an especially up and down guy

Depends on the rest of his season really. If the Oilers win the Cup and he has a great playoffs, then yeah he easily gets $5 million+.

If he puts up numbers similar to what he's got so far this year, then he's not getting 5. He'd likely wind up signing a show-me, one-year contract for low money.

What? he's making that already.

if he's going to sign an extension right now it'll be for a notable upgrade in salary.
Hes one of the worst goalies in the league and benefits from an amazing offensive team in front of him. Georgiev was the same until he finally fell apart.

Moneypuck dont lie.

And? That doesn't negate my point. You might be right but he isn't signing anything right now that's not for an upgrade in salary. He'll bet on himself before accepting such a hypothetical offer.

Oilers need to find a guy to split starts with him. $5m is probably a good estimate of where the next cap number could be. Maybe a bit less on a three or four year extension.

The OP is referencing the Oilers letting him go and what he gets at UFA. Its not gong to be started money is what Im saying.

*Looks at Jarry's contract*

I recommend NOT giving a middle line goalie $5mil or more. And I certainly recommend NOT going longer than 2-3 years.
