Stuart Skinner is the best game 4 goalie in the history of the NHL

Oilers need to find ways to play more Games Four.

“Hey Conor? What game is it?”
“Game 4, bud.”
“..ok. It’s just that we played a different team last game, we’re in a whole new city, just feels like maybe it’s game o-“
“It’s whatever f***ing game I say it is, now dig the f*** in!”

Pretty funny to have this thread after he was BENCHED for games and only got back in because who saved the oilers got injured

Stuart Skinner in game 4s:
5-0
2 shutouts
1.32 GAA
.953 save percentage and
That’s it, those are the stats, don’t care how bad his averages are in every other game number
His pattern tends to be as follows:

Game 1) poo the bed
Game 2) ride the pine
Game 3) play ok
Game 4) Vezina caliber
Game 5) Top 5 goalie
Game 6) Top 10 goalie
Game 7) pretty good goalie

Not entirely true. The NHL won't let me play, so we don't know how I would do

But yes. Skinner somehow can go from ice cold to red hot. It's crazy. He was stellar the last two games against Vegas. Nearly my level stellar. It's impressive

Skinner is basically a better version of Campbell. He's stronger mentally, which is what allows him to eventually dig himself out of the hole that Campbell buried himself in. The question isn't that he can't perform, but whether Edmonton can weather the storm while he figures out his shit.

So far, they have.

Same for me. But we can both claim that we're undefeated in game 4 of the Stanley Cup playoffs and be technically correct, the best kind of correct. We've never been the goaltender charged with the loss in that situation.

(We can just leave out the fact that we've also never been credited with a win due to 0 games played, but that's no fun. Let people draw their own conclusions.)

I have been offering my services for years, but no takers.

Apparently it isn't a good look to have a guy sign a single game contract and then take a 200 foot run at a goalie :P

I like this idea. We can create our own team, then never play, and claim to be undefeated every season.

Your best bet is to be a college goalie or former pro, then get into the game as the EBUG on a one-day ATO. (There are also a multitude of people they sometimes choose from, especially on short notice, such as one team a time dressed their video coach as the backup goalie, and also, famously, David Ayres who was the regular Zamboni driver for the Toronto Marlies.)

But then you'd have to hope that both goalies ahead of you (or maybe just the starter if you're lucky) get injured since you're not allowed to enter the game while on a one-day ATO unless the goalies ahead of you get hurt, and I wouldn't wish that upon them (we're not supposed to wish injury on players on this site anyway). Only then would you get a chance to play. :P

Not at all different from last year. Skinner struggled badly for periods and Picks came in and got the team back on track. Once Stu got back in the crease, he was solid and got us to game 7 of the final.

Hahaha ya exactly. I went the beer league route.

Now I'm 38 years old. Fat and have a bad back. But I can still do a perfect splits somehow. Life doesn't make any sense lmao.

Consistency has always been Skinner's issue so the problem is he can be solid for a few games and then be really spotty and unreliable in his play for a run of games, but you have to give any goalie credit when they get 2 shutouts in a row regardless of the circumstances. Pickard's 6 game run should give the Oilers a lot of confidence that they can make a switch if needed, it's good having 2 goalies playing well considering goaltending was/is probably considered Edmonton's biggest team weakness coming into the playoffs.

We are the same age. I also went the beer league route (after two seasons of high school hockey as a club sport). Now I have a physical disability that prevents me from playing "regular" hockey, but there's a sled hockey program down in Tampa that's tempting to try. Also, on a random note, when looking at it from the perspective of sled hockey, they refer to it as "stand up hockey." Reasonably accurate, but in some of the games I was in (whether as a player or official), "stand up" wasn't very accurate for some of the players. They spent most of their time on the ice getting hit and/or falling down, often on their own without being pressured.

Wow that actually sounds awesome ! Sounds fun. Sounds competitive too. Nothing wrong with that !
