Speculation: Struggling prospect for struggling prospect thread

Re: Lapierre, I'm personally not in the camp of trading him for another struggling prospect, unless that prospect has very high pedigree and/or the Caps see a good chance that player can turn things around on this team. (Slight favor to D, as qcal stated above me.) Lappy has shown enough to know the skill is there to play a middle six center in the NHL, he just needs to improve his consistency and I suspect his off-season training.

I would however support the idea of using Lapierre as part of a package to acquire an upgrade on himself or somewhere else.

I think they both get one more year. I think Ottawa would like to bring in a vet backup for Ullmark to battle Merilainen for the #2 slot, Sogaard splits AHL duties with whomever that is.
Sogaard makes too much to be our #4 and isnt nearly good or reliable enough to be our #3. I agree that Merilainen will likely be the #3.

Ottawa will trade Sogaard for an AHLer if possible and replace him with someone a) with a better pro track record and b) making 1/3rd - 1/7th the amount.

I agree that Boucher will likely get another year unless some team values him and is willing to take him in a package for an NHLer.

I’d have to imagine the GMMG would listen around Bordeleau and Gushchin. Both are RFA, undersized, offensively minded that haven't clicked enough at the NHL-level to avoid a return to the AHL. Los Tiberones also have their train of most recent draft picks nocking on the door very soon.

Mitchell - undrafted and has shown no NHL ability when healthy. Not sure why bother in a trade scenario.

Laroque - Had a little hype coming out of juniors, but has generally been injured. His window might have passed him by.

I was updating some charts and thought the NHL should have a portal just prior to Free Agency where prospects on ELCs that teams have soured on could be placed on a sort-of waivers (Once claimed, maybe the team can either try to work out a deal with the team, recall them from waivers, or let them go).

Some candidates:
ANA: Rodwin Dionicio (I never quite figured out what it was he did, but people who covered the AHL seemed to be really irritated and questioned whether the Ducks would bring him back from Switzeralnd again)
BUF: Olivier Nadeau (Spent most of his first two seasons in the ECHL)
COL: Oskar Olausson (Hasn't really progressed)
CBJ: Corson Ceulemans (Bypassed on the depth chart by other prospects)
DAL: Christian Krygier (Seemd to fall out of favour and not play much down the stretch)
DET: Carter Gylander (4th or 5th on the Red Wings goalie depth chart)
EDM: James Stefan (100+ points in the WHL last year, 3 goals in 45 games in the AHL this year)
FLA: Evan Nause (played mostlly in ECHL)
NYR: Hugo Ollas (Rangers have 4 goalies under contract, Garand and Boykos as RFAs, could still add an AHL vet)
PHI: Alexei Kolosov ('nuff said)
PIT: Joel Blomqvist (Sergei Murashov is pushing his way up depth charter and Pens have 5 goalies in system)
SJS: Mitchell Rusell and Ganon Laroque (Both spent most of season in ECHL)
STL: Simon Robertsson (Guy was injured a LOT last year)
TBL: Max Groshev (Ended the season playing defence for Syracuse after being suspended for...racist (?!) language)
TOR: Vyavheslav Peksa (Likely #5th on goalie depth chart, 6th if Murray comes back)
UTA: Sam Lipkin (Seemed to spend most of the season on the 4th line)
VAN: Josh Bloom (Mostly an AHL-ECHL tweener)
WAS: Zac Funk (Junior scorer was mostly injured, mostly in ECHL)

To comment on Nadeau - he needed reps and wasn't getting playing time with the host of first and second rounders around in Rochester the last two years. It's more likely that Isak Rosen is more a target to move and Nadeau will get an opportunity as RW2 in Rochester this year. He's got skills that they don't have among their forward group, need to get him more meaningful minutes at the next level.

I wonder if the Devils move on from Foote this off-season.

They’ve made deals in the past like Reilly Walsh for Shane Bowers when they’ve had guys that were good AHL players but unable to make the jump.

Foote’s been in the same boat the last few years. Some of the names mentioned in this thread like Lysell and Lapierre would be interesting targets for NJ.

Krebs for Kurashev?
Kurashev isn’t even going to be offered a contract. Reichel and Kurashev are both actually great reclamation projects for any team out there looking. Hawks have already moved on with way better prospects that have made them forgettable, but Kurashev has 50 points in the NHL on a brutal team and Reichel is going to be good on his second team for sure.

Ideally would like Honzek for a different center (or forware) prospect struggling. Honzek is a 16th OA pick in 2023.
Hell no. Honzek took great strides last year after an injury plagued D+1 season. He's probably going to get the chance to play on the Wranglers 1st line this year, possibly at center.
