Phi and CBJ have been relatively good trade partners in the past years.
If Streit were to add CBJ to his NTC 10 team list would the fans be interested?

Streit @50% retained for a 2nd?

Cap friendly says it would put CBJ around 1,192,857 in Cap Space

Why would the Flyers do this? He's useful here. We are thin on the right side. You want Hextall to retain 50% and all we get is a 2nd? Streit is tradeable, but we're not giving him away.

Streit is regarded as trash on these boards. He is not. Last season he was injured and I expect him to be good this season despite his age. The flyers d lineup at the end of this season could be
Mdz - gudas
Provorov-ghost
Sanheim-streit.

That is actually a respectable defensive lineup.

Streit will hit 40 next year and his Cup window is closing, it seems pretty unlikely he would agree to waive his NTC for a lottery team.

Columbus bought out Tyutin over the summer, it’s doubtful they would give up a huge chunk of the space they just gained from that and an asset for an even older, pricier, pending UFA in Streit. And after hiring Torts, they only have one 2nd over the next two drafts, wherever that may land. Streit would give their power play a boost in the short term, but at that cost they might be better off trying to sign Ehrhoff or Boyle on the cheap.

Florida or Dallas might be a better fit for this idea, both have enough space and a chance to make a run this year, and could benefit from some added veteran leadership on the blue line.

Where is Schultz? MacDonald?

Sanheim is likely spending the entire year in the AHL. The only way I see him getting a call-up is if Provorov is returned to the WHL for one more season.

I also find it very unlikely that a teenage rookie in Provorov is going to be partnered up with a sophomore Ghost.

You'd be much more likely to see:

MDZ-Ghost (played very well together when paired last season)
Provorov-Gudas (veteran partner and PROTECTION)

Streit could provide some value to a playoff team down the stretch. Thing is, that playoff team could end up being the Flyers. If they have a good season, I don't think you'll see Streit traded for a mid-round pick. The pick wouldn't be worth what Streit could provide in depth in the vent of an unlikely deep playoff run.

With respect to the pairings you could be right.

With respect to the dman, MacDonald will be sent down. If sanheim plays as.well as he did last night in the ahl they will have no choice but to call him up by midseason. Schultz is not going to be the factor blocking sanheim. They will figure out a way to get sanheim in the lineup if he has earned it.

It's possible he could be valuable since we have a distinct lack of veteran experience on the blueline and would love to have someone who could assist in that regard. I'm just antsy about the price.

Where exactly would Streit fit in the CBJ lineup? The only question spot is 3rd pair RHD (Murray, Werenski and JJ on LHD, Savard and Jones at RHD). Streit is a lefty who plays okay on the right? How much better would he be than, say, Cody Goloubef? Is that difference worth the money?

I'm a Streit fan, and the Jackets D need veteran guidance. It's just hard to find a spot for him at this point.

Streit today is a very "Meh" Top 4 D-man and a very good 3rd Pairing defensemen today. He's played the right side his entire time in Philly and seems to have no issues either or. He's still a great weapon on the PP, has a booming accurate shot and makes the smart plays with the puck. He's worth a late 1st to a playoff team, or maybe a 2nd with a small plus. Retention on a one year deal really has no value it's simply a way for us to facilitate a trade easier in this deal specifically as we have plenty of room to absorb the hit. The Flyers will NOT be taking any salary back that does not expire in a year and will NOT be moving him for peanuts. I'd rather have him here than not unless it means we can get a significant asset in return for him for the future.

Streit really seems like a deadline trade.

If CBJ wanted a veteran dman they could have signed Seidenberg.

3 things:

1. Columbus has Murray, Johnson, and Werenski on the left side. Streit would be a good add but it's not a pressing need.

2. Philly should be able to get more for him. Either a better return than just a 2nd or they shouldn't have to retain 50%.

3. Don't think Streit would waive for Columbus unless we're near the top and someone like Hartnell or Gagner contacts him.

Overall, it's not bad but I think Philly (and Streit) could do better.

Streit plays the right in Philly.

Seems more like a guy that would get moved mid-season or at deadline to a team looking to go deep.

I think Edmonton would like Streit @ 50%

Wish they could works something out with this and Yakupov. They couldn't get a 3rd for Yakupov earlier and maybe they can get something atleast more at the deadline for Streit. Given the price of puck moving defensemen. He wouldn't cost much and is on the last year of his contract. Perfect rental.

Streit will be a deadline move if the team is hopelessly far out, otherwise we need him to return to form. He should still be an effective QB for PP2 and a decent 3rd pair veteran that can plug the top-4 as needed.

Is that true that Edmonton couldn't get a 3rd for Yak? I find that hard to believe. I would think New Jersey would have taken that gamble.

Schultz seems like he'd be the odd man out on the Flyers defense at this point.

A MacDonald is playing good in the preseason games although it's mostly against AHL and junior players.

Streit could still be useful as a 2nd PP unit - 3rd pairing defensemen in the Flyers line up on the right side.

Unfortunately Manning is still needed as a 7th defensemen due to expansion purposes.

Flyers defense I'd like to see start the season.
LD Del Zotto RD Gostisbehere
LD Provorov RD Gudas
LD MacDonald RD Streit
7th defensemen Manning

Morin and Sanheim should be assigned to Lehigh Valley AHL.
Philippe Myers should be reassigned to Rouyn-Noranda QMJHL.

Trade LD Nick Schultz to Columbus or Ottawa for a 3rd round pick in 2017 or 2018.

Trade Schultz now.
Then trade Streit if/when Sanheim is ready
Demote Manning if/when Morin is ready...AMac becomes 7th Dman

Let Manning get those 12 games in so we can exposed his in expansion, then demote his ass.

You were making a lot of sense until that last line. We have zero need for Schultz, and indeed would expect to be compensated for taking on the cap hit.

Streit's value is somewhere around a second round pick or a very late first at best. However, his last ~2 months the season were really bad. If he replicates that play this year, he might only be worth a 3rd round pick by the trade deadline.
