Barely was able to watch last night. But i remember a pre-game post shitting on the Leafs old ass second line composed of Tavares and Patches... How'd that turn out?

You could kind of feel this L coming a bit. Jets were getting mainstream hype on being the last undefeated team and their hot start, Prime spotlight, along with the Leafs having the Jets number as of late.

Since that video from 2021 was posted of Scheifele celebrating that W "is there anything better than beating the Leafs" the Leafs have won 6 straight

The Jets are still a V good team, on to the next one.

So you're saying that people who criticize players when they deserve it but not when they don't are wrong somehow?

What's the matter with objectively critiquing players on how well they play
I have yet to see any criticism on here that was anything but subjective.

Even when guys try to buttress their opinions with statistics, graphs and other snake oil, they're still not being objective.

We were awful and the Leafs were good at not letting us get possession or zone time. Helle wasn't his best but, a couple grade A chances we gave them.
Samberg has been brutal lately. He is hiding behind good teammates / results but he's a giveaway machine and can't handle the puck. He needs to be sheltered on the 3rd pair.
Hopefully Heinola can get healthy then he could really have an opportunity to step up.

It's time to bring up Lambert and have him and try the 2C spot. Vlad to the 4thC
They are not making nor should they make any big roster decisions after one game. They just won 8 in a row.
You give the players the opportunity to put that one behind them. You also don’t just gift a rookie the 2c spot.

The guy who has been most disappointing is Villardi.

Guy who has impressed the most perfetti who has been night and day from last or Connor who is finally playing a 200 ft game. Hopefully it runs off on schief.

Good point. Can anyone truly be objective?

What is good in the new nhl where players pace for 100 pts? Is he really pacing higher than Nino despite being on 1st line?

The wingers on the second line are outpacing him without same opportunities. I get it if he was some shutdown guy like Danault.

As @Stumbledore would point out my critics are vey subjective since I expect more,

So YOU'RE the one responsible for this loss!

Or maybe it was my dad who attended his first game in person this season

The streak was bound to end, just wish it didn't have to be against the Leafs because Sportsnet will be insufferable. I watched a bit of the Amazon broadcast and I thought it was decent. I understand why people would be upset over games on Amazon Prime, but for me its a good thing since I don't have a TV or cable but do have Prime.

Time for the Jets to re-set and refocus and go on another winning streak.

In b4 @sipowicz says "oh, he dressed?"

I'm actually responsible. When the Jets came back I still wore the blue and white for a couple of seasons and the Leafs lost all of them. Since then, I've only ever seen the Jets beat the Leafs once and it was that 5-4 Laine vs Matthews showdown in their rookie years. I can still replay that breakaway save on Matthews and then Laine sniping it short side on Andersen the other way like it was yesterday in my mind.

I know a lot of people on here are pissed at the loss to the Leafs , I,m not . I managed to sell my tickets to some stark raving crazy Leafs fan for 2 times face value and now he is all fired up and will be willing to pay me even more next year .

There is nothing like sticking it to a Leafs fan and charging him thru the nose just for cheering for that stinking team . Go jets Go !!!!!

It's a good point. 50 points these days is like 40-45 5 years ago. Good but that's 2nd/3rd line production, with his mins, on most cup teams

Agreed. I was trying to stay away from a value judgement if Morrissey should play with 55/81, but rather who you have on the ice with you on defense can make a huge difference in your 5-5 success. A lot of time people post numbers like the forward group plays in isolation from the D pairing.
There is lots of context, lots of info you can get from isolating the D pairings like that I think. We could see how Lowry line does with each pair, how Ehlers line does with each, how Ehlers and Scheif did with each, etc, etc.

That said...

What are your thoughts about Pionk after finding that stat?

One thread I'm seeing 81-55 are doing well when not anchored by Pionk pairing. or at least when they have Morrissey on ice with them?

The other I'm seeing how a modest raise on Pionk's $6M salary makes sense?

First glance it feels like explaining away 81-55 numbers this way only shifts the blame more towards poor Pionk lol

I think the decision on Pionk will be one of Chevy’s toughest. When you get the best of his game he is an offensive top 4 RHD. But he has been wildly inconsistent throughout his career. That gets weighted against how rare actual top 4 RHD actually are. I think Chevy tries to re-sign him but grinds out a fair contract.

In terms of explaining away anything it was more of a statement of you can’t just look at forwards in isolation from the defense pairing they are on with which regularly happens around here.
