Did anyone else notice how Ehlers faded after some longer shifts. He needs to be fresh to make a difference.
I think you can say this about nearly every top player in the league. There's basically 3 exceptions at forward that come to mind for me: Crosby, McDavid, and Patrick Kane.
And I think that's kind of the point of most people that rag on the top line getting so overextended on most nights thus far.
All of the top 6 need more shifts with less TOI and it needs to be distributed more equally.
And it really shouldn't be 100% certain that the Scheifele line plays the most among forwards. If they're clearly struggling then their minutes should be reduced. I commend Maurice for the micro adjustments he made in the last Oilers game to shift Lowry into covering McDavid. Adjustments like that should be more expected and less of a surprise when they happen.
It's a combination of small quirks that just never seem to get addressed that are so frustrating for me. It definitely gets overblown most of the time, but my biggest worry is that we ride Scheifele into the ground so hard that there's nothing left to give come playoff time. We'd Bruce Boudreau our way in and out of the playoffs.
