I don’t care what we are or what we aren’t, if it’s a big deal or not a big deal, we need to just win games. This division and conference is too tight to piss away games. We are almost halfway through the season and could be on the outside looking in from a few spots down in no time at all. Getting complacent with our position is a great way to find ourselves in another up hill battle. The schedule in the next two weeks isn’t pretty with two against Washington and one with Tampa, Montreal, Philly and the Rangers. Got to batten down the hatches quick.

We got to stop with self inflicted gunshot wounds with penalties and stupid mistakes. That’s the frustrating part of this.

The discpline issue is a problem that likely isn't going to go away. You put Hamilton, Niederreiter, Edmundson and Svechnikov on the same team and you're going to be down a man quite a bit. That may just come with the territory of moving from a more perimeter build (the teams under Peters had all-time great discipline) to a lineup that will battle in the high traffic areas.

I am a NC non Canes fan(though I follow and like them). They are solidly in a playoff spot. 6 pts to the outside looking in is a light year. Nobody below them is better than 6-4 in their last 10. Tampa Bay is struggling and going to have to play a super busy schedule to make up those games in hand. They wont be winning them all.

A lot of teams in the east played a west heavy first half. They will play a 3pt game heavy second half. Making up 6pts is a lot.

Tough defensive breakdowns in the 3rd, but they were a Top 5 defense, or close to it, coming into the game. This is an aberration of the larger sample size.

As I said earlier in the thread, ugly losses will happen. No big deal.
Oh absolutely it's an aberration, defensive lapses like tonight are going to happen from time to time with even the most elite of teams. What concerned me a little in this game is that it has exposed how poor our weak link truly is in goal. Defense was bad, but we still scored 6 goals. That should be enough to win, but our goaltending duo was straight garbage twice allowing 3 quick goals by the opposition to neutralize anything the rest of the team was doing. At a certain point, the goalie has to make the save and tonight neither Reimer not Mrazek could.

That is worrying going into the second half.

Feels like our record in weekday afternoon games is atrocious no matter who the opponent. We seemingly played Boston for a few years in a similar situation and tended to get decimated in those games as well IIRC.

RBA didn't name names but alluded to the sleepers in his presser and how they got the team into trouble early. I know he likely meant it re: sleeping on the job but some of them don't look all that alert in early outings.

At the 5k this year, Forslund jokingly spoke about how some of them can't deal with an early wake up call. It was Aho and TT that day who showed up about 2 hours after everyone else. A couple others looked like they had just rolled out of bed.
