Injury Report: Stolarz Stretchered Out Of SBA During Game 1

I think as a play and in the context of the game Bennett would get away with maybe a fine but there has been too much talk about this for the league not to give him a game or 2. The optics for the league would be terrible.
Agreed. The media uproar about it will result in a suspension.

He was puking and stretchered out the building. That's 2-4 weeks recovery minimum at best. I think you're really discounting how serious a concussion is
I am not at all discounting the seriousness of a concussion. I had several growing up from soccer and rugby, and my oldest daughter is dealing with one right now (from, of all things, taking an oar to the head in rowing). They are unpredictable, but to say that it immediately means that a person is out of action for months is irrational. There is a protocol they will go through, and so long as he passes each stage, he will return.

if Marner walks, I don’t want this sociopath anywhere near the team. His blank, emotionless expressions piss me off the most. One day, he’s going to get some massive karma coming his way.

He deserves a suspension and the standard has been set by the Ekblad suspension. It was intent to injure, player is injured long term. He should get 2 games as a repeat offender. Has been suspended or fined previously on similar infractions. Giving him a fine without a suspension would be ludicrous, as it says he did it but he got away with it.

Needs to be suspended. Done

Its the ones you dont see coming that hurt you too.

The excuse making for a guy blindsiding a goalie in the head and sending him to the hospital are insane at this point. He literally chicken wings out to target the head and follows through.

It's a series suspension against an injured goalie. Not 2 games. That's insane.

Lightning fan here, this is typical FLA BS. Maurice has done this consistently, thug hockey. TOR better have a heavy or two to keep Bennett and their D in line. You will see three or four go out over the course of series. Gotta hit Tkutchuk and Bartov for every hit. Only thing Maurice understands. Cooper won't do that...

At this point we need a hard rim around to catch Maurice in the giblets so he can shut up for once.

I'd be stunned if he got a fine, let alone some actual games off.

It's an awful look for the league that a player with a history of knocking players out of the playoffs, has now knocked a former teammate into vomiting over the bench & needing to be stretchered to a hospital.

Could be sooner then anyone thinks. Remember its Berube as coach not Keefe
Berube does not have the tools to do anything other than Domi who is not as smart as Bennett when it come to cheapshots. Expect the Panthers to raise their game tomorrow. Hopefully the Leafs match their intensity.

...that would be an admission of guilt. He hid away after the game.

honestly, you can articulate it in a way that you can apologize and just BS your way into "oh yeah it was just a hockey play, or i didn't mean to get his head, or whatever." I will always own it. - I ripped Naz a new one the back the back years he went after the Bruins players and got suspended (so much so I got verbally harassed on here to the point I had to leave for a few months because I was so hard on Naz).

but the thing was, Naz would have been the first one to tell you that yes he was defending his player, yes he he put the team down but didn't intentionally mean to actually HURT the guy. that was an accident.

If it were me - I would have flat out told Panthers PR no. I have to go apologize because someone I played with got injured because of me, and I want to at least say publicly, I'm sorry that he's hurt.

honestly, the fact that the media (on both sides of the border) are basically like "eh ... nothing." vs going all Stephen A Smith and losing their minds over this. is insane to me. it's not because it's a Leaf player/a goalie. it's because it's a person who has constantly done it over and over and over. to countless people on a team where player constantly go after people after the play to deliberately hurt people.

it's just pathetically sad

Raffi Torres' greatest hits:

Was just watching these this morning. What separates some of Bennett's uncalled hits from Torres' highlights? Doesn't seem like much separation other than the fact that Torres developed a reputation early and got suspended repeatedly for infractions while Bennett hasn't. The only thing I can think of is that with Torres, he did most of his on open ice and charged from a distance, so it's a lot more evident to the referees, linesmen, players.

Other than that, the impact of the infraction is the same - sticking out the elbow, blindsiding, etc. Just a different era. Torres played in a peak goon era, which ironically dished out more lengthy suspensions than currently where the game is much cleaner than it was 10-15 years ago.

When can we reasonably expect to hear some news on Stolarz?

I'm guessing the Leafs wouldn't provide an update before knowing if DOPS will step in or not (guessing they won't being a player from a sunbelt team injuring the goalie for a Canadian team).

Woll would have to elevate his game at least a couple of notches to pick it up where Stolarz left off.

Bennett made a predatory move into the blue paint and delivered an elbow to an opponents head resulting in injury. The optics may be bad for the league but the facts are a lot worse.

I assume today. Berube will probably talk. It's likely the Leafs PR team will issue a statement on his health considering what happened.

The other thing that really annoyed me is how Maurice responded in his interview. It's despicable. I get that he's trying to protect his team and his players, but his team has been responsible for THREE major injuries in the past 4 games. It's beyond coincidental, and then to be combative in the post-game interview and defend your player's actions, that's just scum behaviour.

It's one thing if your players are slashing guys in the leg with a stick, it's something completely different when your team is repeatedly headhunting players and causing serious head injuries.
