We need to inject Domi's snarl and competitiveness into Auston's body.
However, Domi never seems to use his snarl wisely. He takes too many bad snarl type penalties. IMHO, he has to use his snarl more smartly.

Matthews with some snarl would be refreshing, however he'd need to keep it under control and know when to use it, and especially, when NOT to use it.

They'll figure it out, guys.
And then, forget it all in game 7 of the first round playoff series.

I like Domi, he is a good player, and he is tough after the whistles, I think people using Domi as an example of someone Matthews needs to emulate his game after is funny... Matthews is more physical during play.

Matthews doesn't need to emulate Domi per se, but needs a rambunctious linemate to activate a more power heavy game and Domi and Bertuzzi helped Matthews activate that part of his game last year.

You'll notice very early on in their careers Babcock had Hyman with Matthews for a few years and back then Matthews was a lot more dogged and blue collar. It feels like Matthews isn't really an elite drive train player who will bring a stable style of play but adapt to his surroundings, tempo, mentality. For me this doesn't really bode well for him as a functional alpha leader on the ice who sets the standard for team identity, but the worst thing that can happen is insist on Matthews and Marner, because Matthews takes on Marner's style as a perimeter guy and trigger man and that's the style that gets shut down in the playoffs.

For those who are wondering. My tiger balm and ZMA kicked in nicely

As for the team, if they are going to have problems, let's have them now so we have enough time to address them

Stolarz looks legit. He was super good
Myers with a shaky start, but recovered well
PP still concerning.

That might be all they need.

People will dismiss anything positive right now but..

Oilers were terrible first 20 games went to finals
Panthers barely made playoffs year they went to finals for the first time

These games mean nothing for the playoffs

True. But the problem is this core has never done anything in the playoffs.

It is very likely this is not the same team by the playoffs.
I think it will be, because we do t really have any picks in the draft this coming summer.

Berube caught yelling at Matthews on the bench last game, not happy with the way he and the whole team was playing. Finally, a coach that won't put up with the b.s. from these players any more. We all LOVED it.

Then tonight after Matthews' game-ending screw up, Berube says 'we have to support him more and it was just a mistake' lol... quite the 180.

Some one hauled Craig into the office and let him know that's not the way we do it here???

As someone here pointed out, Berube will be absorbed into this MLSE system and become just another cog in the wheel. No one can make a difference here, the Rogers machine will swallow up anyone who goes against their grain.

The "core 4" sell regular season tickets.

That's all that matters in this city of hockey. If they lose all 82 games but still sell out all their seats, Rogers prevails and no changes shall be made.

Pat Burns used to go easy on the boys after a bad loss and only give them shit after a win.
At least that’s what Clark and Gilmour said at the Fan expo years ago

Hero to goat in a matter of minutes. How many times that will happen to 34? Yes, not too often is the correct answer . File this one away as witnessing oddball history

In Toronto what matters most is that our stars had fun (and got paid (never forget the money))

They still have the same no show core group in the playoffs so expectations are naturally low.

Another meaningless game. Playoffs are the only thing that matters

We are absolute dog shit though

Only so many "meaningless" games you can lose in your division.
It's useless to pretend we are winning Cup by beating Arizona 7:1.

If we continue down this path, we'll have Mitch Marner playing playoff hockey with the rest of the team just to hold onto wild card.

Not that I would ever call team that never wins it's division, not to mention a President trophy "elite regular season team" but this is really weak. Can you imagine the playoffs after they burned out games 60-82 trying to stay in?

Meaningless games in your own division...

Considering we suck ass in playoffs, this was as meaningful as it gets for the Leafs.

Can't you see the culture of "meaningless games" is what leads them to ruin in the end? If the other team can win the equally meaningless game by accessing a greater level of detail, effort, execution, guess what happens when it really matters?

There are games that have no impact on standings, but if a team can't find the motivation to find meaning in what they do they are in trouble.
