Perunovich will be exposed and end up a career AHLer.

How's that for spicy?
Even if you are correct that his level of 5 on 5 play is AHL caliber, his PP skillset is too high to be a career AHLer. He may never force a full-time spot on this blue line. He may never force a spot on any contender-caliber NHL blue line. But there are simply too many teams looking for affordable PP help to keep him out of the show through his mid-late 20s. He has already shown that he can effectively QB a PP at the NHL level. His PP points per 60 is 25th in the league among D with 20+ minutes on the man advantage and the eye test with him out there on the PP has been very good. It's obviously a small sample, but he has already translated that aspect of his game to the NHL level. When Krug was slumping, Berube started giving Perunovich more PP minutes and the PP stayed red-hot.

Even if he never becomes worth it at 5 on 5, there will always be 10+ teams who have a clear need for that skillset and a D group good enough defensively to shelter him on the 3rd pair. We might not be that team. The Krug signing probably cemented the fact that we won't be that team long-term. Assuming that is the case, he will journey around the NHL for a few years before teams stop looking at him.

Remember Brad Hunt? He's played 197 NHL games and hasn't played an AHL game since 2017.

The Stars are going to come out angry tonight. We need to match their physicality and energy early.

Brad Hunt is probably a good comp.
