Anyone who thinks Texier was worth a 1st and a roster player is out to lunch. That was silly. Still is.

4th is low value though.

Tex is an ideal bottom 6 player. Great acceleration, transition, forchecking. He is skill, can pass very good, plays well in PK. Pity he has average hockey IQ and not too good shoot.
Best of luck, Tex. :thumbu:

Texier is coming off a very disappointing season where his value dropped tremendously.

But it was his first year back from Switzerland, and he was much stronger in the last couple months of the season. I was inclined to give him another chance, he has a great skillset. Very gritty with great hands and powerful skating. I don't like Waddell selling low like this.

Oh well, good for the Blues. Texier has more to give.

This wasn't a fleecing by the Blues, but Waddell nonetheless unquestionably f***ed up. It's an easy textbook case.

Here's the offer sheet compensation information AAV ranges for the year, per CapFriendly:

Here is Texier's prior contract that was expiring:

Note that the both the AAV of Texier's previous contract ($1.525m) and the AAV of Texier's new contract ($2.1m) BOTH put him within the range of a 3rd round pick in RFA offer sheet compensation. And the fact that the first news we had of this happening was release of the contract details is a very strong indicator that Texier and/or his agent were already talking with the Blues - which would have required Waddell's permission.

Given that, a 3rd in 2025 would have been the bare minimum return, unless Waddell somehow got it into his head that Texier was going to give the Blues a discount and take a pay cut. Waddell got a 4th in that same year.

He unquestionably f***ed up. There's no excuse for it. Thankfully it's not a large f***up, but it is a clear, unambiguous, and inexcusable one.
Favor to the player.

Another 2-year bridge. I think this is gonna be the way with the Jackets on most of their guys.

Now do Kent Johnson. Probably a 2-year bridge at less than this.

Marchenko is really the only interesting one there. What do they do with that?

I like Tex, but he didn't play to his size. He also tends to be a little bit of a passive player. Would love to see him become more aggressive and use his size to make space. This was one of those reach picks Jarmo made that seemed to work out fairly well, but never became the home run pick that was hoped for.

Will always remember his PP goal in the TB series as a rookie a few years back. Best of luck in StL.
