It's a tremendously lopsided trade in favor of St. Louis.
They could but it's just not a smart allocation of money. Pietrangelo & Parayko will be the 1, 2 punch. Parayko will be a lot cheaper too for a while.
Boston doesn't do the OP's trade.

I'm not sure how St Louis is on LW, if there's any need there I guess they would jump on it. Bruins say thanks but no thanks.

Not a crazy idea, but Boston politely declines without leaving an opening for STL to add any pluses.

I would assume both teams would be looking to make the deal with the idea of extending. While D is more important than wingers, Marchand is just in a class above Shattenkirk.
They'd make an exception for Marchand, but they're pretty stacked on LW as is. Steen, Schwartz, and Fabbri are all Top Line capable LWs.
As a Blues fan I'd totally do this. The value isn't out of whack at all given the higher value of RHD vs LWs, but Boston wouldn't go for it. Marchand has a future with the Bruins. Shattenkirk is going to leave the Blues with or without a trade.
