I still think Martinook on the top line is over slotting him. He works his ass off but we also have Roslo filling that role on the top line. Necas is doing awesome in the 2nd line but I do wonder if it's time for a first line promotion there.

If Svech is going to be a passenger this year we will need another 2nd line scoring winger for a playoff run. 3rd line Svech looked pretty good last night, could be a natural fit for him to be honest, the play the heavy game he likes and gives them a scoring touch.

I’ve always loved Martinook for the personality and the play style, but he may have/be in the midst of a legit leveling up of his career. In 22-23 he set a career high in points and and was only 2 points off it the following year. He had that crazy playoffs in ‘23 also with 12 points in 15 games, then the following playoffs only 4 in 11 games but one of them was the huge game winner against the islanders and he had that incredible diving save that ended up being for naught against the rangers. And this year he’s humming right along with 12 points in 18 games, on pace to crush that career high. Maybe he really is blooming late like players sometimes do
It looks like he never makes the wrong decision anymore.

Over the past 2 seasons + this season. 5v5 Goals and points by player:

Aho: 38G, 83P
Necas: 33G, 83P
Svech: 29G, 70P (missed about 35-40 games)
Martinook: 28G, 69P
Jarvis: 29G, 66P
KK: 24G, 63P
Staal: 26G, 59P

The big difference? Martinook and Staal are getting the absolutely toughest matchups and the least amount of ozone starts while putting up these numbers.

Those two are the absolute most underrated players on the team and very well may be for the league. Staal doesn't score so he gets bashed and not noticed and Nookie is just a worker so doesn't get high lights, but without them this team is not one of the tops in the league six years running.

So the same as every other year

Also, I'm not sure Aho and Svech have any chemistry at all. They never seem to be on the same page and the line plays worse than it should given who is on it
100% agreed. Svech and also roslovic are way too often just waiting Aho to make some miracle play or they just react way too late. Ahos biggest strenght is that he thinks fast and can make fast plays just because of that. Svech and Ros are just way too slow minded. :D

Aho and Guentzel were a force last year. I'm serious, if Necas has truly taken that next step, it's worth pairing him and Aho to see if something similar breaks out.

Svech, he needs to figure his game out. Right now he looks most comfortable on the Jordo line, which isn't exactly where we want him playing.

Nookie does have highlights and elevates his game in the playoffs with huge hits and goals. Love the dude, he's a warrior.

Staal....well I don't remember any huge goals or hits....any series defining plays in the playoffs. He does prevent a lot of goals and is more valuable on home ice. But those things don't stick out. There isn't a fan highlights of his defensive plays like there is for Slavin...so what he does he does in a less sexy way.

I’ve been a regular season staal critic for some time but he’s had a ton of huge playoff goals. Tying game 7 late against Washington, overtime against nyi in that same year, overtime against Nashville all off the top of my head

Bump Jarvis up to the 2nd line.

Necas/Aho/Roslovic
Robinson/KK/Jarvis (or swap sides)
Martinook/Staal/Svech
Blake/Drury/Carrier

I.... Like it?

KK and Jarvy could be interesting, and some younger legs is probably better for his game. He would give that line some needed grit. Only question is if Rob and KK can provide enough offense.

But Svech with Nookie and Jordo could be a Brindy wet dream. Grinding line that plays incredibly heavy and has a surprising amount of offensive punch? Could arguably be 2nd line quality on many other teams in this league. The more I think about it, that would be a great playoff line

Why not just move Jarvis (when he returns) to the 1st line? That way it doesn't break up a 2nd that's working
Or that, too.

Pairing Nečas with Aho is something that would obviously work, but is the kind of "put all your eggs in one basket" move for when you need to shake things up, which is not the case now.
If it aint broke dont try to fix it, so as long as that 2nd line works I would not touch it.

Agreed. One dynamic line can be shut down….2 can’t.

Only change I would consider is to move Jarvis (if healthy) to the top line and keep Svetch on the 3rd.

Thanks for the examples.

Those were 4 and 5 seasons ago, right?

I don't have any problems with Jordo nowadays with what his cap hit is.

I probably prefer Martinooks leadership style and he's had more big moment more recently that pop to top of my mind.

And let's be reality Rod is still captaining just from the bench these days.

Just find yourself a woman who looks at you how rba looks at Jordo.

That lineup was along the lines of @Svechhammer idea to promote Necas to play with Aho and needing another 2nd line winger, which would be Jarvis. If you leave the 2nd line intact (which I agree they should for now) then moving Jarvis back up with Aho also works.

Yep, for now I'd do this

Roslo - Aho - Jarvis
Rob - KK - Necas
Nookie - Jordo - Svech
Blake - Drury - Carrier

And honestly, the more I look at those lines, there's a ton of potential in all 4 to be good. The first 2 lines should be fairly potent offensively (especially if Necas keeps it up), and that 3rd line would be a nightmare for other teams to play against with the 4th being pure unbridled energy with young players still not fully understanding how good they can be.... and Carrier.

And if you get into a crunch when you need a goal late in a game or a series, you can overload up top and go Necas - Aho - Jarvis on that first line and just pepper high quality chances on net.

Also, I seem to remember that Svech either likes playing his off side or has played it in the past.....can't recall which, but the end is the same.

I like Staal w/Svech. He seems to bring a lot of good out of him. Plus Staal likes that move behind the net where he tries to find somebody in the slot and that's a perfect fit for Svech.
