I like Stammer. Seems like a good dude. He left money on the table to stay in Tampa.

And now we have to accept he’s eating 8 Million of cap space to not produce in the playoffs. Cooper knows it. Not even 16 minutes of ice time in a must win game when the Lightning didn’t even have Kuch.

Why? Because Matt Duchene is beating Stammer like he stole something. Duchenes line is absolutely dominating Stammers.

Despite the limited ice time, Stammer still managed a -2.

Frustrating thing about Stamkos over the course of his career seems to be the fact that despite being a near generational sniper he really doesn't bring the traditional puck possession center game that you'd like to see. I give him credit for trying to take the body to generate some momentum in the playoffs but he's near useless when it comes to dictating the play.

This is Duchenes reaction to being matched up with Stammer

I don’t think it’s really Stamkos’ fault tbh. He is just a powerplay specialist at this point so when refs stop calling shit he stops being useful. The problem is people thinking he is still a franchise player when that hasn’t been true in years.

Personally I would love to do with him what the Pens did with Kessel and put him on the third line. Playing on Cirelli’s wing he should be able to get something done at least and would give top six ice time to other people who need it more.

Been disappointed with stamkos during this play off series, really expected better from him. Being a captain means you should lead by example something which he has struggled to do so far when it really matters.

He's definitely leading by example. Look at the results.

Very disappointing, no doubt. With the way Stamkos played 5-vs-5 this season, I figured this post season he'd finally be a factor. This stinks and I'm not sure how anyone can look across the locker room during playoffs and say to themselves...... "Our captain is going to come through this period, I know he'll do something"

Stamkos will be doubted the rest of his career and only known for a regular season player until proven otherwise. Stinks because we really wanted it for this group of guys, sure the players feel even worse.

I hope he is gone this summer but I know it's just false hope. Would clear a nice amount of cap and he has good value again after the regular season he had. You can't have one of your top paid guys go MIA every time the chips are down.

I don't know about trading him, but I'd seriously consider stripping him of the captaincy. The guy is not a leader, at least not on the ice. Give it to a guy who can lead this team to the Cup.

Also, a question to the people living in Tampa. Is he still the biggest name over there or is that Kucherov now? I thought what kind of impact trading him would have if he's still the face of the franchise.

Ive been a big fan of his for a long time. Been ups and downs watching him but this series is a low for me. He shows no emotion, he doesn't hit, he doesn't win a battle on the boards, can't buy a goal and looks so poor. It's like he's back to sucking.

This team will always puzzle me with how quickly things went south. Credit to columbus but we have really done ourselves a number this year. Cooper needs to be fired and there needs to be a shake up with the faces that have been around too long. We need a new play style that can crash the net, fight through checks and play heavy. This finesse, button hook, 32 passes before one shot offense is just crap.

He's still the face but it wouldn't have as huge an impact as 5 years ago.

Stamkos isn't going anywhere. The C is kind of meaningless but we HAVE to find an actual leader even if it's not an "official" one. I don't know where but it's clear we don't actually have one, either on the ice or even on the bench. These guys are lost.

It feels like we have a lot of As, but no Cs.

Every shot of Stamkos on the bench in the 3rd just had him staring into space, looked completely lifeless. That's just his personality though, he never was a lead by example captain.

I mean, if we're going to get into that - what type of Captain is he exactly? He doesn't strike me as a ra-ra guy either. He seems like a very nice dude, and probably is friends with the majority of the team.

Look - I think the role of a captain is largely overrated in this sport, but if nothing else it's a bad look to the fans when the guy wearing the C is getting fewer minutes than two 21 year olds because they're upping their game and he isn't.

He does seem stressed out and overwhelmed by the pressure and responsibility. If you took the C away, he might even be relieved and perform better, especially if he was on the wing so he wouldn’t have the defensive responsibility.

I think Stammer is probably great at talking to the refs which is one of the responsibilities of the C, but other than that...

I feel like stripping Stamkos of the C is shuffling the deck chairs on Titanic. Sharks did it with Thornton and it didn't help them or Thornton.

It seems this team needs a major shakeup and what would be bigger than trading the face of the franchise who's pretty well known for being very underwhelming in the playoffs.

Stamkos just isn't a captain that a team can rally around. Too soft-spoken. Sad but true.

His peak as a Captain was the first day he stepped out of the tunnel out of the trade deadline. Downhill ever since.

His play tonight, just f***ign awful. There's nothing that can explain it except that's what a player who can't handle pressure looks like.

Until a cup win, his career will be defined by that "assist" to Panarin.
