I love these threads. It makes that moment when Blues fans sink into their couches and witness yet another playoff campaign where these guys disappear offensively even sweeter

Oh the originality of this post. So what happens IF they happen to win it? (Fingers crossed, knocks on wood.)

So confused.

Some fans of a few other teams, especially in the Central, think Backes is a "fake tough guy," as though you're basically only allowed to be 1. a player who doesn't mix it up at all, OR 2. a heavyweight (in which case, you're only allowed to mix it up with other heavyweights, otherwise, you're dirty scum).
But because Backes isn't some great fighter, playing rough with other players is somehow despicable in their minds. He's far from clean (most players fall into the gray area), but he doesn't jump into hits, target heads, throw rabbit-punches, etc. All you get is a rare boarding like everyone else who hits a lot and then some roughing after the play. But that apparently makes him a villain.

Probably because fans have come to view sports through the lens of story even though the inherent chaos makes sports a better analog for real life than stories.

Since Jan 1st they have all been in the top 5 of NHL scoring among all players. Obviously they are not the best offensive line in the NHL, but they have been on one heck of a hot streak considering they were all three determined dead after a slow start to their seasons.

To be fair, Oshie and Backes both had concussions and the mumps to go with it early on.

Do you have a link to were to find stats from a certain point?

Are teams putting their shut down line on the Backes line or the Tarasenko line?

They were putting them on the Backes line at the start of the year and Vladi's line was unstoppable. Now they have switched to Vladi's line, and the Backes line has been unstoppable.

Tough to beat. Not to mention poor Stastny finally has decent enough players on his wings on the 3rd line, they are no easy task to defend either.

I don't understand. Couldn't you say that about 95% of the threads made here?

I didn't know we changed the definition of "disappearing" to mean "one of your two most important players getting concussed."

As of now, and even at the beginning of the year I had STL as my cup favorite and deepest team in the league. With a top 9 of

Steen - Backes - Oshie
Schwartz - Stastny - Tarasenko
Berglund - Lethera - Jasken

You just cant go wrong...

MPJ might not have panned out but that draft pick we got in the deal became Ivan Barbashev.

Perron wasn't fitting in on any Blues line. Moving Perron gave Oshie his chance as the top RW and is probably why he has become the player he is today.
Perron played LW. Moving Perron allowed Schwartz more ice time.
