IDK what TSN is doing. They put up their own scoring after each goal, and a lot of time it doesn't mesh with what the IIHF does but that shouldn't matter. The IIHF is the official scorers for this tournament. TSN doesn't just pretend the NHL missed assists and put up their own version of the scoring race during the NHL season so I'm not sure why they insist on ignoring the IIHF official stats even though they make some clear mistakes.

I have a pool going and everyone is arguing about the validity of each players point total

Pool manager should specify before the tournament begins what they're going to be using. I use the IIHF stats and that's what I think people should use as it's the official stats. Pools should use the official stats not what some other media company decides they think is more correct

Yeah, it's frustrating. This is my 6th year running this pool so I've had a pretty in depth look at how the stats work. The IIHF used to be absolutely terrible, but started doing scoring reviews two or three years ago. However, I feel like they've had a bit of a relapse and are making a lot of mistakes again this year. The number of missed assists is piling up fast and I've already seen multiple scoring mistakes in the first two games today alone. There was a time when I considered going by the TSN stats, but they really aren't any better. They just make different mistakes than the IIHF. :shakehead

If you pass it to the scorer, but before the goal, the scorer executes a give-and-go, I believe IIHF doesn't credit that as a secondary assist. Stuff like that is scored differently than NHL. Is that the type of scoring you're confused about? Idk which scoring's exactly in question amongst pool participants.

Correct. Isn't that why liljegren didn't get an assist on Sweden first goal

Weren't there 3 other players to touch the puck on that play after Liljegren?

Andersson didn't get an assist on Sweden's 1st goal against Belarus for that reason though

How can TSN only had Mete with 1 shot when he's now at 6 on WJC page?

That's one issue, but not the only one. Some just get missed. At the moment they have Svechnikov down for two assists vs Switzerland, which is actually correct. The problem is that they gave him an assist on a goal they shouldn't have and are missing an assist on a goal where he should have one. :dunno:
