Saturday, January 14 | TD Garden | 10:00 a.m.

Due to the World Cup of Hockey we were unable to host our usual State of the Bruins event earlier in the season. It is important that our fans have access to Bruins senior leadership and as a result, this year our State of the Bruins will feature President Cam Neely and General Manager Don Sweeney prior to our home game on January 14. Next season we plan to return State of the Bruins to the format of previous years.

More information, including how to attend, will be provided the week of January 2.

Hmmm no JJ and Charlie. This will be ignored by the media as the Patriots are earmarked for a home playoff game on that date.

I wonder how long it takes and how many different ways Neely and Sweeney can say mediocre. That's the feeling I get watching this team this season.

I hope that some of the draft picks pan out otherwise the future of this team looks bleak.

This is interesting...certainly not the norm mid season...perhaps coming at the Jacobs request. Time for Neely and Sweeney to be more in the public. Way too quiet as of late.

Wow. I was surprised, because I was still getting mailings about the State of the Bruins being included well after it was obvious that they weren't doing it before the season started. I guess this is to make good on their promise to STHs, although it'd be nice for the Jacobs to be there, too.

Kind of awkward to do it now if it's going to be focused on the "direction of the team", which is what Neely, Sweeney, and Julien are responsible for, rather than "how to make the STH experience better", which is what the Jacobs clan are responsible for.

I mean, I honestly don't want our GM or our President to trash the team. It's a self-fulfilling prophecy. But I don't want them to sing "Sunshine, Rainbows, and Lollipops", either. So, I don't see what they could say. On the other hand, gripes towards ownership regarding the construction on Causeway, the need for a new modern jumbotron that displays information besides Alex and Ani advertisements, long lines getting into the Garden, concession gouging, or STH benefits, ARE things that could be addressed, and the timing doesn't really matter. In fact, some of those can be literally changed on the fly if they really wanted to.

Of course, I'd expect the questions to be pre-screened, like they were last season, to avoid embarrassment. It's an interesting event they put on, but part of what makes it interesting is the mix of people: ownership, management, coaching, and players. Obviously, the latter two are off limits for this year.

I guess the 1 PM game is for people who want to leave the game early to watch the Patriots game that will probably be at 4:35.

The State of the Bruins is for a certain type of fan and my guess is backlash from phone calls

I like it in September to see folks but I have zero interest listening to the quality of questions that make me feel I live in Carolina not a supposed hockey town

NBC wants that Patriots home game to help solidify their new station in Boston that launches January 1. Kraft wants the game on CBS because of his relationship with the network at Patriots Place.

NBC has one game on that division weekend and then they are done for the year and they really want to promote the new NBC Boston.

I can't tell you how much i like those, living on the east side of the pond. It just seems it's Buffalo too often, which is still a rather boring opponent - if i had the privilege to choose, i d go with almost anyone else. We've been winning those lately though if i am correct, so there's an upside.

So another fluff Q+A session where no real questions get asked, And a bunch of BS will get spread from Don and cam about the youth movement and staying competitive.

Future certainly going the right direction however if something doesnt improve with todays team over next 5 games, the question is the current coaching staff the issue? Certainly something that I'm sure is being considered.

At times looking like a rudderless ship or worse a Sinden managed team in the 2000's.

I was looking at Kirk's list of prospects last night, and while I think there is a very good chance of 6 or so prospects making this team in the next couple years the only impact player I see is Charlie McAvoy. DeBrusk and Senyshyn with JFK could form a solid third line, Frederic and Gabrielle look to be solid 4th line players with some upside with players like Lingren, Zboril, O'Gara being 6/7 D's at best. The core will still be Marchand, Pasta, Bergeron, Krecji, Backes, Krug and Rask, a very solid core but with questions, not the least of which is that of Bergeron, is he injured or have years of deep playoff runs, international competition and injuries caught up to him and what we see is what we get going forward.

They will need to make a splash in free agency or a significant trade to improve the top part of the roster. I'm being pretty optimistic with them having 6 regulars from their prospects, most teams don't hit on that high a percentage and the Bruins rarely do.

And they are absolutely doing this town hall/state of the Bruins on a day where it can be hidden and forgotten by Boston media, only way this even gets discussed by the local press is if Neely pops a fan for asking a question he doesn't like or it's so negative that Neely and Sweeney walk off the stage. I'm sure it is like the political town halls where you are given a question to ask and that's it, all pre planned and mapped out.

I been to every one of those Town Meetings and their are always eye rolling questions. They should screen questions. I have that game and I don't want to hear some of the crap that if not modified would be coming

Few if any saw Marchand as a top line player or Betts as an MVP finalist or Brady as the GOAT

We will get some gems out of the 2014-2016 drafts- core players

Problem is they do screen the questions. I sent in a softball question a few years ago and of course they called me and asked to present the question. I ended up not going. I want to send in an easy question, stand up and then ask my real question like "HOW DO YOU GUYS FEEL CHARGING YOUR MOST LOYAL CUSTOMERS FULL PRICE FOR 3 PRESEASON GAMES?"

I find it odd as well. Its almost like theyre hoping for a small turnout as now they're asking people to get there at 9:30am for a 1:00pm game as it starts at 10. I cant see many being totally on board with it. I'm sure they've received a number of complaints about it especcily with how the team is playing. I wonder if you'll need your game ticket to get in as the doors open at 11:45am for a 1:pm game. No sense in making us leave for a half hour then to come back in...I also would be surprised if this event will be transferable in our Bruins Account...I was told they received a number of complaints about how many people gave their tickets to non STH at that Thanksgiving event...and people want it to feel more STH exclusive? I dunno...we'll see...I have more issues with the lack of ushers and security. Ive been in contact with fan relations numerous times this year about fights in the crowd, people standing up in rows and people entering the sections during the play because they're cutting way back on ushers and security...

I don't think anyone would really complain that the State of the Bruins is "not exclusive enough". Do you really care if you're listening to the management talk in front of 1000 people or 3000 people at the Garden? I don't think one feels much more intimate than the other, and while your odds of being picked to ask a question would theoretically triple, they're still moderately slim, and based primarily on if you have a question the Bruins really, really want to answer. (Hint: Ask about merch.)

The B's Thanksgiving (and the Winter Classic reveal party last year) are another animal. I think the main attraction at those events is the photo booths where you take pictures with players. More people means longer lines, and I imagine that could be an issue if you spend the entire 2-3 hours waiting for two pictures with 4 players, and you don't wind up getting your favorite player.

I think Chicago has a big preseason fan fest that's run really well from what I hear, but you get a colored ticket that only lets you get pictures (maybe autographs?) with one or two players.

Another thing to consider before complaining about the SOTB questions - the fan base, even among STHs, is broad. You've got diehards who've watched every game since the Bobby Orr goal and who go to all 44 games (hi LadyFan!). You've got the first time STH who's splitting tickets among 8 groups of people and maybe has gone to 12 games over the past 4 years and doesn't really watch often if it's not convenient. They're going to have different interests and ask different questions. And some are just asking questions to get a free signed puck. ;)

This event is a success if this is the only question asked.
