Start Talbot on a consistent basis

There seems to be a group of people who have something against Talbot and want him to fail, so that the other guy looks better.
That's disgusting. You cheer for the front of the jersey, not the back.

Who is that group? I'm curious, because I don't see any of that.

I've been extolling Cam Talbot on the board since before half of the folks here knew who he was. I also happen to be a "Hank guy." The two camps aren't mutually exclusive.

I want the team to win and for every individual player to succeed. I also want Henrik to start every night and battle through his issues. I'm not rooting against Cam though. Not really sure anyone is.

Well, thats just you not comprehending the discussion.

Oh please. It's tongue-in-cheek, but dont try tap dance around your lionizing of Tortarella and how some non-system system was the reasonb why Lundqvist won a Vezina.

Watch Vancouver play sometime. The roster that was built to compete for the SCF for the last five or six years is all of a sudden looking like the 2011 Rangers.

Outshot 40-8 over two periods last night.

Just go into any random GDT where Talbot starts and look at the mocking from a few when he lets in a goal. I've noticed it as well. There are Rangers fans and there are guys that have put Hank above the team to where they are actually jealous somehow that Talbot is looking solid. It's weird but he's right.

"I hope Talbot gets the start against Chicago, and people will see what will happen when he faces a good team"

Can't go back and search for the exact posts on my phone

There is no excuse or answer for Lundqvist playing this poorly other than Lundqvist is playing poorly.

It's not a system. it's not equipment. it's not getting married, or having a kid, or any of the ridiculous excuses people have been trying to make for him.

He's a grown man, he's a star athlete and he's hit a funk. It happens. Just deal with it and accpet the fact that maybe, just maybe, nobody here has an answer as to why he sucks.

Blaming the offense.....I always love that one. Three of his last four losses the Rangers scored three goals.

Looks like Rangers fans have been hitting the crackpipe again. They want them to score four and five goals a night so everybody's favorite goalie can stop imitating Steve Buzinski and vault the team to another 6th seed.

It reminds me of the Giants fans who still dont think Eli had a bad year and if he did, maybe it was the line's fault.

It's ok to admit you were wrong. We've all been there. Nobody will think any less of you.

Talbot is playing better and needs to start on a consistent basis. This is Richter-Beezer, Hostetler-Simms, Cheeks-Strickland and Mariano-Wetteland.

Somebody posted this in the 'What's wrong with Lundqvist?' thread and I have to repost here because I thought it was interesting.

Goalies who depend on athleticism rather than fundamentals break down early because even the slightest loss of the reflexes or athleticism has a serious negative effect on their performance. That's what we're seeing from Hank and he's not going to get better. Slats signed Lundqvist to a seven-year deal just when he has hit his natural decline hard. He'll be done as a quality starter by the time he is 33.

Well said there.

The Eli comparison is so true, too.

I like the guys who think I hate Lundqvist because I point out his deficiencies.

I have two daughters. When they make a mistake, I let them know (in a nice way), but I still let them know.

So i guess I must hate my three-year-old because I tell her her "S" is backwards.

I mean, you obviously think that they will be forever failures.

Lundqvist-Eli is not the best comparison because Eli has made his name as an average to slightly above average QB who is great in the postseason.

Lundqvist is the opposite, a consistently top 5 goalie who hasn't found success in the playoffs (Be it his fault or not.)

Its more irregular to see Lundqvist have a bad year. I don't consider myself on "team Hank" or "Team Talbot." I want the team to win games. Right now, that means giving Talbot a sizeable chunk of games, probably at least 1 of 3, until he starts to play poorly or Henrik gets back in form.

We shouldn't trade either. This is why its nice to have a backup not named Valiquette.

I don't think he's comparing the level of player. He's comparing the reactions to their poor performance and how some Giants fans (like some Rangers fans) refuse to even criticize the player for poor play.

The guys that say he shouldnt have been signed are frustrated extremists. The guys who blindly defend him are frustrated optimists.

Losing brings out the worst in a fanbase, especially the ones who never really experienced painful losing.

After every loss, I think back to the fun seasons of 1985 and 1993 and 1998-2004 and it keeps things in perspective.

For whatever reason this season the team seems more comfortable and more in control of the way they play when Talbot is in the net. Maybe it's not all Henrik though he's given up numerous weak goals throughout this season. He seems to be fighting it a lot. Personally the best way to go here IMO is with the hot goalie. Results are what's most important. Cam is getting results--Henrik a lot less so.

Jari Gronstrand, Milo Horava and Jan Mertzig.

Richter went into the 1990 playoffs with a defense of Mark Hardy, Randy Moller, Jeff Bloemberg, Normand Rochefort, James Patrick, Milo Horava and the poorest excuse for Ron Greschner. Lindy Ruff played some D as well.

Richter must look at Henrik - Cup and all - and steam every time he complains after a goal.

There is a large group of Ranger fans on here who want the whole team to fail so we can get better prospects/draft picks. Look at this quote from the Brooks thread.

"They need to start dropping further out of the playoff race or there will be no selling as usual."

At this point, yup. Sick of the same ol' same ol' and I really don't care who thinks I am a "bad fan" because of it. I am interested in the future of this team and winning a Cup, not being knocked out of the first 3 rounds for the rest of my time here on Earth. Sooner rather than later this team will need to get worse before it gets better and I'd rather that happen ASAP.

Keep being the best fan you can though and believing that routing them in to the 8th seed is the road to success for this franchise.

You can win being an 8th seed, it's all about how the team is playing in March not how they played in December.

Unless you added something very significant in March, it's unlikely that the team will suddenly get good in the playoffs after half a year of mediocrity. Granted if Lindberg gets called up and magically turns into the next Wayne Gretzky, our odds of winning the Cup from the 8 seed are pretty good, but why would the team suddenly get better in March?

It's also much more difficult to win as an 8 seed because you don't get any easy rounds early on, so you are much more tired by the time you reach the ECF than a team that easily swept through two low seeds to get to there.

Its hard to tell, these are 2 really good goalies. One is established and one is emerging very fast. On the one hand Schneider is the future, but then Marty has always been Marty and has gotten the job done time and time again...

Oooops, my bad, wrong thread :sarcasm:

Came here looking for Stadium Series threads and saw you guys have more or less the same convos as us going on haha... cheers!

Okay. What makes more sense, build a team that is consistently competitive for many seasons or just keep playing the Sather game and hoping for all eternity this team will suck or be mediocre for 75% of the season but then magically get hot enough to beat all the best teams in the league for the last three months?

You should probably be playing the lottery everyday too if that's your mentality. You are bound to win it eventually!

Anything can happen, right? lol Good luck with that.

How about we just ride the hot goalie??? Who ever that is. Harder to do now with hank's new contract.

I would ride Talbot at this point, or at least give him an extra start more often. Remember when Tukka Rask took over for Boston for a year? Then Tim Thomas was right back in stellar form the next year.

Maybe not a fair comparison, but it was a positive for Boston in that a young guy got a chance to really shine and give confidence to the team in his ability. Hank will be the guy though (unless he starts posting ridiculous stuff on Facebook).
