Post-Game Talk: Stars 2 - Jets 1 in OT, Dallas win Series 4-2

I would also like to say that i thought Pionk had a great playoffs, man i like watching how he isn't scared to battle any player big or small . Thought he made some very good defensive plays last night and throughout the playoffs.
Joshua is our best d man, Pionk has the most heart, if Samberg re signs I can see both him and Pionk being our top pair in the future.

Well it’s all been said, but what a fantastic season! It’s been wonderful to interact with everyone here all season and I look forward to seeing what next year holds. This year has been the most fun watching hockey that I can remember.

I hope you all have a wonderful summer and look back on this season as a successful one with lots of great memories.

Very sad about how our season ended. And sad for #55.

Probably will not be watching much more of the playoffs this year. If I do - I cannot and will never cheer for the Oilers. I'll cheer for the Leafs 10 out of 10 times against the Oilers.

Positives:

Felt Snerg and Perfetti took big steps this year and both had strong playoffs. I expect more growth from both, especially Cole.

KC and Scheifele continue to be strong producers on line one. No real concerns with those two driving that line next year.

Lowry is still a force at 3C and Iafallo is an excellent utility winger with grit.

Vilardi had a second straight good year on line 1 and imo is a very good complimentary net front scorer. Hopefully he commits long term.

Pionk had a great year and great playoffs playing with a complimentary partner with size.

Concerns:

If Fly leaves that leaves a an offensive hole.

We need a solution at 2C, I'd prefer Namestnikov on the 4th line acting as a mentor to Chibrikov next year.

I have concerns about our top pairing in the playoffs. I think JoMo is getting targeted and probably needs a partner with more size and grit then DeMelo. This also takes into account DeMelo's game fell off this year.

That’s absolutely correct and I hope that is something his teammates emphasized during the post mortem. And the numbers hold it up — clear cut breakaways are about twice as likely to result in a goal as a simple minor, especially one where (as someone else so eloquently put it) the PK team gets a free virtual clearing when the period ends.
The penalty wasn't the bad play

It was the turnover up high in the O zone with 20 seconds left. That puck HAS to get deep

That said, I'm 100% giving Schief a pass on the play. He was a warrior just to show up, and had a beast-like game up until that point

Great effort by the Jets. So much respect for Scheif, was ecstatic when he scored. Hard to believe in karma and the hockey gods when it ends like that for Scheif, just why did that have to happen that way. He should be proud of his efforts, we thank him and all the players for playing so hard on an emotional night, now he can focus on family.

I'm fine with Scheif having a gambler's mentality there, even in virtual overtime, because the longer the game goes, the less likely we were to win, thanks to running 5 D and 2 of them being exploitable. We were already showing huge signs of defence fatigue having to play without Morrissey.

Kupari is probably the only guy that I'd pick with a lesser chance of burying that than Appleton lol

The Jets definatley need to move on from Appleton though
One of our first clashes was on this very topic, I'm glad to see you've come around. 🤣🤣🤣

I was here after the deadline and a lot of people insulted me. I said I want to come
Back and say I was wrong because the jets proved me wrong.

They didn’t. Chevy needs to wear this loss and this failure AGAIN. Appleton should be left behind in Dallas.

The team isn’t good enough. Everyone knew that. Chevy did nothing as usual.

See you all next year when chevy also does nothing and we all pretend the jets are good enough, get our hopes up and are let down again.

Sheif is a warrior. Helle back to form.

Chevy you suck

Yeah, right, Chevy sucks.
Only the best GM in the league.
SM effin H.

I'll take solace in the fact Helle found his game the second round. I think he should be over that hump now.

I'd like to see an effort to build a more balanced second and third line for next year. We need more size on line 2 and more scoring on line 3.

Sign Ehlers!
Get a 2C
Either say goodbye to Apples or bump him down to the 4th line.
Sign Sammy 8 years.

Not sure about 3rd pair D but it can't be Stanley and Schenn. One or the other or neither, not both.

I feel for you guys and ladies; that was one of the most gut wrenching results, with the circumstances involved, in recent memory. To see Scheifele in the penalty box as the GWG was being scored ripped my stomach out; sometimes, the hockey aura is ruled by Satan. If Dallas had won after that penalty ended, it would feel slightly different, though a loss is still a loss.

Observing from afar, the Jets did make progress this year, but unfortunately, not enough to get to where they need to go. You people know the dynamics around the team much better than I do. Most of your top players are signed long term, so maybe their window isn't quite closed, but you need pieces to help get you over the hump.

They need a few upgrades and need some of the youth to continue to progress.

But yes it's an aging team that likely has another 1 or 2 kicks at the can with the older guys being the key drivers.

No one is mentioning it because of the road loss stat, but Helly started playing to his potential in game 4, a bit better in game 5, and held that through game 6 (really strong play from him there). I appreciate that he showed resiliency and found his game again.

Yeah, I'm optimistic that he's now over he's mental block and going forward we get the Helle we all know he can be in the playoffs.

Helly played out of his mind last few games and made some ridiculous saves last night. That game was ours, we played well from the goalie out even when Jmo went down.
