Online Series: Star Wars Andor on D+

Just finished. I'd say this or the first arc of season 1 are the weakest arcs for me. This probably being my least favorite. It was still pretty good but it didn't have the same suspense, keep me on the edge, type feelings I had with the first season 1 arc.

The rebel group stuff was pretty meh. Felt very marvel esque with bad humor put into what could've been a good serious scene. Glad to be done with that group.

Mon Mothma actress nails it per usual. Her scenes never have any action in that sense, but are always so well done.

I enjoyed the farm stuff. I'd die for Bee. The first arc of season 1 I also struggled to get into initially but once it picked up a bit I enjoyed it a lot more. Although I don't know if I'd enjoy this arc nearly as much as that one on a rewatch.

I'm not sure if I have this in a post anywhere, but I've been saying to some friends that Dedra is going to be Andor's sister, Kerri. Different eye color and hair but that's not difficult to change in the Star Wars universe. Drives home the humanization of the villains theme. Her confirming she has no family has me really high on this theory.

A lot of people don't like Syril but I actually enjoy his character. The scenes with his mom always kill me.

Overall, I'd call this first arc good but not great. I think it'll only get better from here though and I can't wait to see more.
According to people who've seen the whole season, episode 5 is when the season really takes off.

Have you been in carbonite or are you just always fashionably late? :wg:

You should be stripped of your username immediately.
I read something that said it comes out after May 4 which I thought was weird.

Just binged all three.

It was OK to start. I mean the worst of Andor is still better than virtually all other Disney Star Wars. The Rebels in fighting was conceptually a strong concept but it was held back by some weak acting from some of the Rebels and the plotline ultimately feeling like giving Andor something to do while the other storylines play out. I feel like I need to continue rewatching S1 and rewatch these episodes cause everything involving Mon Mothma can be hard to follow. Overall it was decent. But the first arc of season 1 was kind of whatever too

This aligns almost identical with my view. Narkina 5 and Aldahni were historical good cinema/tv, not just star wars. If any of the arcs hit that level, I'll be really impressed. Reviews are good, so fingers crossed!

After I brought up the lack of alien races in season 1 in the live chat of Harloff's show right now, he said he agreed but "they're EVERYWHERE in season 2", which was good to hear. More alien races in the rest of the season then.

Edit: he also said the first arc was his least favorite.

Edit2: he's also hyping that there's going to be a "water cooler episode" that's the best Star Wars tv episode episode ever. He said the 3rd arc was his favorite so I'm guessing it's in that.

I thought it came out next month...
Damn. We lost a great chance to screw with you!
Kinda already suggested in this thread but an animated series of Andor between these main events would be more than welcome from me.
I’m all for a sub Andorverse, kind of like Ultimate Marvel. Gilroy may not want to actively be a part of it, but I hope he’d at least let novel, comic or animation writers pick his brain.

They also hint at the Empire being human supremists.

I have this vague recollection that xenophobia in the empire was a heavy part of the platform and a general part of society in the old EU. Like Thrawn was supposed to be this big exception.
I recently read Splinter of the Mind's Eye, the first EU novel, and that's filled with Imperial xenophobia. The Thrawn trilogy, which I read last year, also has it. In addition, the Empire looked down on droids. So, human supremacy in the Empire goes way back, at least in the EU.

And while I don't think it was ever really spelled out I always had the feeling he was out in the Unknown Regions as kind of a "keep him out of sight" assignment. Like he was too brilliant to not have in the Empire, but also he wasn't human so they couldn't have him parading around in public.

The Empire as human supremacists has been a "thing" dating back to the original trilogy, but has been constantly undermined by the expansion of the series beyond the OT. The EU had Thrawn (as discussed), followed up by all sorts of other half-baked ideas. The Prequels introduced Grand Vizier Mas Amedda, who was further elaborated upon in Clone Wars and is referenced a few times in Andor season 1.

Like many things in Star Wars, the more backstory and explanations they try to write, the more convoluted and full of inconsistencies and retcons it becomes.

I think Filoni has done a good job on both the animated and live action side on both expanding the lore while also tying up loose ends.
