Stanley, like Comrie, has buddied up with the core players of the team. It was quite obvious during camp and prior to camp to see who he was skating with during small group play.

Are there better options available? Yep.
Will playing him end up costing the team some goals and probably a few games over the course of a season? Most likely.
Is is worth pissing off the team's letters by waiving him or sitting him for prolonged stretches? Evidently the GM and a handful of coaches think not.
Evidently? Honestly man, this is purely your opinion and a stretch at best - there might be others who share it but that's usually the case with any opinion.
He's a 6 or 7th Dman and I can assure you, the "letters" didn't meet with the GM and coach to go over Stan's usage. It's possible that players might have some sway within the org (who they want to play with or not) - but they don't manage the roster down to the 3rd pairing dmen because of who they personally like or dislike.

When does he ever have an ‘on’ day that rises above mediocre?
He's a 6-7 defenseman ffs what do you want?

I absolutely guarantee whomever replaces him would get the same treatment because people don't seem to understand the capabilities of a bottom pair defenseman.

Stan had a decent run in a very sheltered role with Schmidt last season but I haven't seen him play that well so far this year.

As @Jet pointed out, he's a 6/7/8 dman so expectations should reflect that

That said, from what I've watched so far this season, Fleury has played better than Stan. Arniel continues to play him for some reason, though. Maybe he's great in the room, maybe the Jets are rewarding loyalty, maybe its the "toughness" he brings... who knows

Probably a good idea to get Fleury and Gus as well back in for a bit just to keep the rust off.

If they are planning to get Fleury back in, they should do it real soon - Ville is on his way and will want in for his "try out"

Agreed. I think it's good in general to try not to let guys like Fleury, Stanley, Gus, and Kupari sit too long as a rule. Hard to be ready to play when you haven't played in a long time.

I wonder too if they try and convince Ville to do a quick conditioning stint on the Moose.

I think that would be a good idea regardless

Of course they don't meet with the GM and coach and discuss bottom pairing ice time but every organization will try to find and keep role players that mesh well with the core or star players.

You are free to disagree, but my opinion (better?) is that finding pieces that mesh with the stars is why Comrie has had three stints with the Jets, why Hendricks had a short encore with the Jets, why we tried making an NHL'er out of some guy named Joona Luoto that was a buddy of Laine's back in Finland, and yes, why Stanley is a permanent fixture in our line up.

He's definitely a 6'7" defenseman. On that we all agree.

You pretty much stated the letters in the room are why he is playing - that's a stretch IMO.
How about maybe the org wants to make this work - they want that size on the blueline - too much of a stretch?

And he's probably popular with the ladies.

Sure. Org wants size. That's always a possibility. No question he bring size on the blueline.

Too bad he doesn't use his size to influence the game in a positive way though...unless you count that one time he sat on Kaprizov.

No interest in having a discussion on his game with you - this was just about why they might be playing him.

IMO there is always far too much angst with Stanley around here which I attribute mostly to draft position. In truth he is a passable 6/7 defensemen and gets used as such. I’d probably put Fleury in over him on play so far this year, but I’m hopeful that Villie quickly surpasses both when he is finally healthy. Of course there is no guarantees with that.

He's not all star that's for sure - the Jets are playing him for the reason you point out - he's a number 1 pick and they are going to give him lots of rope.
He's not costing them games at this point so why not run with it a bit - the Jets are being careful - it's what they do.

Who takes over his PK minutes when the put Villi in? I'm kinda worried Villi is going to be stapled to the press box with that reasoning.

If Stan was taken in the 3rd or 4th round the expectations around him would have been much different from the fan base. I wonder if the org would have also treated him differently?

Ask Kova and Chisholm if draft position means more than performance... Stan would have been waived 2 years ago if he wasn't a first rounder
