Sign Pacioretty for league minimum or a bit over

Trade Kampf, Robertson & Jarncrock. Then once the season progresses call up A. Nylander

Knies Matthews Cowan
A. Nylander Marner W. Nylander
McMann Tavares Domi
Paciorrety Holmberg Reaves
Dewar

Reilly Tanev
OEL McCabe
Benoit Liljegren
Timmins

Woll Stolarz

1st PP : Matthews, Marner, W. Nylander, Cowan & Reilly

2nd PP : Tavares, A. Nylander, Domi, Knies or Paciorrety ( whomever has the hot hand ) & OEL

* Marner as a C with 2 scoring wingers would be lethal, more ice for Mitch to work his magic. An adjustment yes but skilled enough defensively to do so, though he would need some work on his faceoffs. Mitch is that good with Matthews, Marner & Tavares as your top 3 centers certainly comparable to Edmonton with McDavid, Draisaitl & Henrique or Florida with Barkovs, Bennett & Lundell.

5 of the bottom 6 forwards can play up in the lineup in the event of injuries, one would expect the Tavares line to be the best 3rd line in the league. Skinner was a good acquisition by Edmonton, A. Nylander a good signing by the Leafs as would be a fully healthy Pacioretty. Do the Leafs brass trust their medical staff, if so one must also look at a Pacioretty.

Cowan is not playing the season and playoffs on the first line… and Marner is not a 2C.
Why not

67% of your Top 6

1RW - no NHL experience
1LW - a 15 goal 35 pt sophomore
2LW - a career high of 26 points
2C - a #1RW with no NHL C experience

67 seems appropriate
Knies, A. Nylander & McMann all score 20+ goals. A. Nylander possibility of 30 goals.

You think this team is a Max Pacioretty away from being Stanley Cup Champions? Really? Then you put him on a line with Reaves?

Other then being proud of your work, what makes this a cup team?

Pacioretti is your biggest idea?

I always assumed you had to have a certain number of posts before you could start a thread.

It's the same team, but with Pacioretty on the fourth line, a couple of rookies/minor leaguers playing way too high, and someone who hasn't played C in at least 9 years (and never above junior) at 2C.

Why would you think this team is better, let alone that massively better?

Marner is not, and never will be a center

Yes, in the AHL. He is a good AHL player, there is nothing wrong with that.
11 goals in 23 games with Columbus, that kind of production over 82 games is 35 + goals. The AHL contract is just a start & is designed as an attitude adjustment, Alexander will have to earn his opportunity before getting a shot to play in the top 6 with Willie. The pedigree & talent are there scouts were correct, it's what's between the ears. A. Nylander does not have to become another Hosang, & Alex is young enough to salvage a career with a possibility of playing 10 years. Willie & Micheal Nylander will obviously do whatever they can to help Alexander.

No but Willy might, Nylander might be asked to center the 2nd line with his new contract and Tavares who has lost a step might fall to #3 C .

XXXX --- Matthews --- XXXX
XXXX --- Nylander --- XXXX
XXXX --- Tavares ----- XXXX

Players that make double digit salaries need to be capable of driving their own lines.

Fill in the blanks XXXX

I agree if Marner wants to get paid like a #1 centre he should learn how to play centre but I can’t see it happening
