Do you think a coach directly instructs a player to run a goalie or does the player just decide that on the fly?
Both, I don't think Travis Green did though. Greig is just an idiot but I believe there have been instances where coaches were telling their players to just run the opposition. There was a series a couple years ago, I can't remember who it was but one of the Analysts was saying "If I was the coach I would tell my players to just run Oettinger"

I believe it was Calgary vs Dallas a couple years ago in the playoffs

Have a feeling they'll be on the PK early in this one. Going to be one of those 'weather the storm' type games
.
Going up 2-0 would be a feeling many here haven't enjoyed in a long, long time, maybe ever.

Certainly possible.
Although if I’m the refs Green’s comments about the Leafs “selling” calls don’t sit well with me. I’ve always found that comment to be insulting towards the intelligence of the refs when used by a coach

It’s different with fans

Problem with McMann is he is incredibly streaky, that’s a him problem, not enough consistency to his game right now. Needs to find his game here throughout the playoffs.
Might it be because the role and expectation asked of him changes many times and he isn't offered an opportunity to play with consistent players for a regular stretch?

Leafs just need to play hard and not retaliate. If they get a goal or two lead, the Sens will break down again and lose their cool.

Play with the same aggression and desire to score early and often. Sens will take bad penalties.

Green better watch it. Refs don't like being shown up.

I was trying to figure that out without googling it.

Has to be the series they swept Ott no?

That might be the only time I can remember them having a 2-0 lead in a series. Maybe once against Chi in the 90's?
Going up 2-0 would be such a great feeling you go into Ottawa knowing that just a split puts you on the cusp of finishing it off in game 5. Tonight is so massive.

I had to google it. You're darned close for off the top of your head, well done. Twice in the 90's they got out 2-0 on Chi, yes.

Steeves is gone for sure this summer, too bad, never even gave him a proper look.
I did the numbers on new deals for Knies, Tavares and marner and it’s not leaving much.

They will need guys like Steeves He’s earned it. He will be an NHLer somewhere.

Lots of talk about some questionable/soft calls on the Sens last game giving the Leafs 6 PPs which is all but unheard of in the playoffs. As such, I expect the refs to let questionable stuff go tonight.

Leafs going to have to earn it 5 on 5 tonight like Scheifele and Connor have in two games for the Jets.

They may let more things go, but the sens were ridiculously undisciplined in game 1.

There were plenty of roughing, interference, holding, and other penalties (especially off-puck) that were not called that typically would be called in the regular season.

It's mostly just 2 Senators fans whining about getting called for a penalty when they cross check someone in the face or board someone. Someone should give them a rulebook.

Not enough media are pointing out how often the Leafs have been on the wrong side of PP's over the last 5 years. Cry me a river Sens fans. Don't play like idiots.

Part of me wants Tkachuk to blow a fuse and get tossed out of the game. It's possible.

I'm assuming the refs are different tonight and chances are they didn't listen to Greens comments.

if the Leafs lose there will no doubt be the "refs are out to get us" crowd going postal at the injustice as per usual...........

Problem is McMann-Domi-Robertson is also a little terrifying defensively.

Exactly this.

I'd rather see Laughton up there with Domi & McMann but that's not realistic until Kampf comes back (otherwise who is the 4C?)

Right now though that trio may be acceptable against the Senators with as long as there is an effort to get them as many O-zone draws as possible, but against bigger/tougher opponents (hello round 2!) I'd be genuinely concerned.

I keep seeing all this hype that Ottawa is "big" and "tough"

They've got Tkachuk and ... 180lb Greig?

Nick Cousins is a rat but he didn't even play last game. They are fake butt cheek smashers.

They're just dirty and cheap-shot artists. They aren't actually tougher than any other team. Brady is tougher than the average bear but that's it. This Sens team is no Boston, Florida, or Tampa.

Have a terrible feeling that Domi will be a dummy tonight.

It’s in his DNA that’s for sure. Father was a better pugilist, son’s a better player, both have it in them to do something stupid at the peril of their teams. The apple doesn’t fall far from the tree……
Maybe, but from what I can see Berube has this team's mindset locked down. They are all saying the same stuff in interviews. It appears they are laser-focused on the task at hand.
