It has nothing to do with the Leafs. It's because ESPN is doing a double header and their contract says that game 2 (Jets) can't start until game 1 (New York) is finished.

Why do the games have staggered starts if they won't start the later games until the earlier ones are finished? How many times during HNIC did we have to keep watching Leafs overtime, while Jets games were starting and cut to mid-game?

I think all leagues do it. I know the CFL wouldn't let the Lions kick off because we had to wait for another game to finish.
