Stanley Cup Final Schedule

This feels like the kind of Final 4 where the Stanley Cup Finals could go 7 games. Disappointing that Game 7 is on a Monday.
Especially since Game 6 is on a Friday. Play game 7 on the Sunday.
NBA claimed that day for its potential Game 7. ABC/ESPN wouldn't want to counterprogram itself or take one of those games out of prime time.

I think they stagger three days for an additional day of travel cross conference. Probably something the players would be especially happy about if EDM makes the final since we're in the north pole compared to all of the recent finals.
Not to mention a potential FLA/EDM series is like the most travel possible in the NHL.

I know people complain about the extra day of rest between venues, but a lot of these players (particularly hockey) will be running near empty and/or nursing some gnarly injuries. Not sure the players would be stoked about losing the extra day of rest before the biggest game of the season. Only having one day between games 6 and 7 might be more feasible if it was a shorter flight like Dallas to south Florida, but if it's Edmonton to NYC/FLO then it would be rough.

The US owners don't want it moved back as then more of the season would compete against the NFL

At some point in the not too distant future nfl will go to 18 games and add another bye week. Taking the SB to close to the end of Feb. so the overlap is going to increase regardless.
I’d rather have hockey go as late as possible. I don’t understand the “no one wants to watch hockey in the summer crowd.” It sucks when there is no hockey to watch.

When the NBA moved back to a 2-2-1-1-1 system for its Final in 2016 they put two day breaks for travel. The NHL followed suit to avoid games falling on the same day. The Cup Final schedule is set a year in advance, it got “released” because both conference final series went 6 games meaning there will be no move up to a Wednesday start.
Also the reason the series go so long is because the season starts later now under the ESPN deal. They have baseball wild card rights for the first week of October, which pushes the NHL season to start a week later. In the NBC days the Cup final usually started on Memorial Day.

Hockey in June is an abomination. Have it end in May like it used to years ago. Why the heck are there are 2 days off in between every single game? I don't get it.
Why though? Unless you’re a regular season baseball fan, what’s the issue with hockey ending later? I want more hockey, not less.

And when the Final was is May it struggled to even get on television. Granted times have changed, but I don’t think putting the Final directly up against the NBA’s conference finals (and having games go head to head) is good for the sport. June allows for tinge games to have their own nights.

The offseason is long enough so this is great. Thank you Gary for extending the post season and making our Junes that much more interesting. Very cool!
