Feel free to comb through everything I’ve said, even going back to last year, I never once claimed he only gets points when things are out of hand. What I did point out is that during last year’s series, a noticeable chunk of his production came when Edmonton already had a comfortable lead, which is true. And it’s also true that he wasn’t nearly as effective when matched up against Barkov. That doesn’t mean he won’t still produce, of course he will. He’s the best player in the world.
It’s great he has potentially 4 games this time not get matched vs. Barkov…

Both teams seem to be playing their best hockey yet. I think Florida has more tools to dictate play than the Oilers but obviously the Oilers have two gamebreaking talents.

I think the unknown factor here is who wants it more. It should be the Oilers who dig just that little deeper to win as Florida can rest on their laurels if they lost.

Also similar to 2009, the Oilers may try to eat up the minutes of Barkov with the McDavid line as Crosby did with Zetterberg (and Datsyuk when he returned) so Draisaitl can take advantage of easier matchups. I wonder if the Oilers should try to load up Draisaitl's line with RNH?

I guess its the random slashes on an injured players broken foot that make them tough.
Spot on!

Edmonton in 6.

Injuries will be very important
Right now it seems that Florida have more players slightly injured than Edmonton.
Bennet will try to "hand out" concussions to players like Draisaitl and McDavid - so things might change.

I know more about the swedish players and having Viktor Arvidsson and Janmark in their team (4th line) will make them more competitive.
These are not the most technically skilled players but they have great speed and will try to neutralize the opposition so McDavid and Drai can work their magic.

Overall, Edmonton have great speed - now also with Kapanen & Wallman playing very well in defense is great.

Florida has not just gotten stronger, there are some players I feel might not be on par with last years edition. Mikkola has stepped up though, and become a very important player in their defense.

before the playoffs started...

Vegas, Dallas, and possibly even LA were all ranked higher than not only Tampa, Toronto, and Caronlina (Dallas and Vegas) for sure, and the last 2 were even higher ranked than Florida. The only way Florida wins if the a combination of poor/Florida biased reffing and if they are able to use cheap shots to hurt the Oilers players.
Oof. This one is gonna sting for ya.

Cats in 7 because our Finns will show Dallas' Finns how it's done :D. And I really want to see Barky hand the Cup to Marchand while rats rain down around them. I mean, if that's not romance...

Honestly, it's a 50/50 toss up in my head. Both teams are somehow better than they were last year (Florida offensively and Edmonton defensively), and both teams were undeniably the best teams in their respective conferences. Injuries will play a role but hopefully the extended rest will help there (particularly Florida).

Should be a great finals between two great teams. From a personal perspective, the more people go on and on (and on and on) about how great McDavid is and how he therefore "deserves" a Cup, the more my petty self just wants him to NEVER win one. That's not a knock at all on McDavid who is undeniably the best player in the world - more of a reflection of how petty I am. And what is sports if not sheer pettiness ...

Nice.

Don't worry, physicality won't be an issue for Edmonton.

A healthy Evander Kane is something Florida didn't experience, Frederic & Podkolzin also weren't around last year.

The Oilers current defense core also move the puck extremely well, which won't allow Florida to take runs at guys like they did in the East.
Cool. If you were that good you would have won it all last year. But something prevented that.

I feel like Edmonton is going to take it this time, Florida already won this matchup once so Oilers will come back with something to prove. They also have Kapanen now. Oilers 4-2.

panthers enters as heavy favorites
Way to underestimate Carolina and Toronto while pumping tires of a Vegas team that lost half their players from the championship team they had before. Vegas isn't the same team as when they won the cup similar to Colorado, so am not sure why that would be relevant. Toronto is also a different team from couple of years ago l, their defense is much much better with Tanev, OEL and Carlo. What's stupid is thinking teams from couple of years ago are still the same teams they are today. Heck even Canucks are a lot different today from last year.
pumping up vegas?
most people did before the PO

for me, i have to take a step back, sure i want the cup, but it has been an over expectation
season, nobody believed in the Oilers to reach this far, they have already won in a sense
by reaching the final, they shouldnt be there, and almost the same for panthers, a little
more belived, but they were not at all favorites, im talking before the PO started,
not before the season started.

I've seen plenty of people picking Edmonton.

NHL.COM is split on votes. 8 for each team.

Kane, Frederic, Perry
vs.
Tkachuk, Bennett, Marchand

... with a solid chance you see Ekblad and/or Nurse coming in off the top rope with a steel chair. Everyone has a dance partner.

The Oil have had a few absolute wars on ice with LA, Calgary, Vancouver, and even Vegas; By comparison (outside of game 2), last year's SCF was fairly tame.

Though how many other teams have tried to match Florida physically? Even vs. Vegas, that was akin to an older bother pinning their (injuried) smaller brother to the floor vs. an outright brawl (a lesson I think they learned after Edmonton). They haven't had to play WASH and WIlson, and they(FLA) got going after TB moved on from Maroon, Coleman, and Goodrow.

Though with this much build-up/hype, I wouldn't be surprised to see this be a somewhat tame series, as both teams accept a MAD doctrine.
