I remember how close the Oilers came in the late 90's. That would have been devastating.

Oakland Raiders moved to LA one year after winning the Super Bowl

If the Oilers would have relocated in the late 90s it would have been a tragedy - but not because they won the Cup, but rather because they had a loyal and passionate fanbase that the league would have been crazy to abandon.

Same situation with the Raiders. They had and have a loyal fanbase in Oakland / bay area, but now the NFL has abandoned those fans twice, first to to move to LA before returning, and now to play in Vegas. Them winning the Superbowl has nothing to do with it.

You know it's sad when a seemingly doomed market like Hartford relocates, but at least you can understand why. When you abandon prime markets that's almost insane.

The NFL didn’t move the Raiders, Al Davis had to sue the NFL to move to LA. When they won the Super Bowl in 1981 they were still engaged in a lawsuit with the league and were already setting up in LA.

The Lakers are the biggest example. They won 5 of 6 BAA/NBA titles in Minneapolis. Plus the NBL championship the year prior to going to the BAA. That was all by 1954. In 1960, they were in LA.
