NHL Standings Watch 2024-2025 - UPDATED 3/4/25

  • Xenforo Cloud has upgraded us to version 2.3.6. Please report any issues you experience.
Boston currently 7th in the Atlantic, 12th in the Eastern Conference, tied with St. Loius in points and percentage for 21st or 22nd overall.

Unless Sweeney pulls a rabbit out if his hat, the greatest point of interest left in this season will be - how low can they go? How high of draft pick can they get?

Don't get me wrong, I never give up. As long as there is a chance I always want them in the playoffs. But I'm torn, because - if they are going to suck, then suck bad ... and get a higher draft pick.

Another essentially worst case scenario situation;

Rangers win, gain another 2 points. Habs win in OT, and Ottawa comes back from 4-1 down to salvage a point in OT. 5 of a possible 6 points go against the Bruins.

Important games for 03/04/2025:

- Nashville @ Boston: In a season where many of us constantly cried "this is MUST win," this statement is probably no more true than right here. Nashville is a 18 wheeler driving off a cliff coming into this game, losing 7 of their last 10 and have been horrendous offensively. Even with how bad the Bruins have been, there's no reason for them to lose this game.

- Columbus @ Tampa: Jackets are up 4 points with 2 games in hand. A win here and a Boston loss puts them at 6 points up with still 2 games in hand. Would put them up 4 on the Wings if they lose too putting them firmly in the driver's seat in the wild card race

- Carolina @ Detroit: Detroit needs a win here to beat back half of the conference trying to run them down for that 2nd wild card spot.

- Winnipeg @ New York (I): Even with the loss tonight, they're still only 3 points back of Boston with still 2 games in hand.

It should really be as simple for the Bruins; if you lose this game, Don Sweeney is hopping on the phone the next morning telling everybody he's open for business.

Ownership still sees a path to at least 2 home playoff games, and that is 6 to 8 million in pure profit :help:

The Bruins must fall into the bottom 11 to get lucky in the lottery.

The next step is hiring a new coach, and when Pittsburgh cuts ties with Mike Sullivan, HIRE HIM

I despise the reality that the Bruins could miss the playoffs as I think back to a crushing Game 7 loss to Montreal in 2014, not knowing the next playoff game would be 3 years later.

Why?

This is the same coach who had the audacity to scratch Kyle Connor, the top US born player in both goals and points in the NHL, for Chris Kreider and his 4 assists this entire season for the 4 Nations final game. 7 seasons removed from any success at the NHL level, Sullivan is a coach behind the times and the complete opposite of what this offensively-challenged franchise needs.

I've been so badly scarred over the years, this is still my biggest fear. Any sensible person would know this is a year to sell and begin a retool (not a tear down). But........................

If the Jacobs family is pressuring management in any way, shape, or form to squeak into the playorffs, I hope they get what they want. Trade Poitras, Lohrei and a first for Brock Nelson. Lose in the first round and successfully truly destroy the tiny bit of remaining prospect potential we have.

Then enjoy a season of empty seats in 25/26 because the tank will be real -- and require no effort whatsoever.

No thanks on that trade.

As I see it I say out with the old and in with the new. I do not want to watch the same old players next season, who would want a repeat of this season. Montreal is ahead of us now in the standings. I do not see this team going far in the playoffs so why not go for a higher draft pick and start rebuilding. As much as it ticks me off with Montreal ahead of us, I would rather get the draft pick, if they make the playoffs and are one and done where is the gain?? There is none but the higher draft pick would ensure success down the road. I am a Bruins fan for life, and it makes it easier to watch next season with new faces, it makes one wonder how this new player will do. I tried to pinpoint what the difference was from last season to this one and I only came up with one answer. The rotating goalies every other game, is that why this team is so horrid?? Is it Swayman or Korpisalo. Maybe they should have tried rotating it with those two because of the Competitive nature of the game.

New coach? I'm not a fan of Sacco but if they get a new one, that would be 5 coaches in 10 years. But same GM and President

Note: Hate rooting against the Bruins, but this season is done.

Currently the Bruins moved up a spot to #12 or even #11. Tied with St. Louis. Next up, Utah and the Islanders. I believe the Bruins can get as high as #7. Lottery eligible as well. Trade Carlo for another 1st round pick!

Would be nice to pick in front of the Habs.

No tiebreakers employed here, what's the point right now?

Get in the bottom 11 and then hope for the best

It is very sobering that

1) Every team already ahead of the Bruins in the standings has a game or two in hand

2) The Bruins are now losing to the likes of Nashville, Anaheim, NYI

Between all that, the injuries, and now trading roster players for futures, it's pretty clear where this is heading. As people are saying, this is really now about getting into the best draft position and accumulating the best future assets. Stinks but it is what it is. Embrace it and make the best of it.

I don't see a lot of value in finishing a point or two out of the wild card spot versus finishing further down the standings and drafting higher. This season has been a dud and the fans know it, you can't fool them with a little surge over the last 19 games. Not to mention that they face a tougher schedule the rest of the way.

I can only speak for myself but I would be a lot more excited to clear the decks of some of the marginal veterans this week, look at what can be brought in this summer, get some good draft picks for June, get some new kids into the pipeline. A poor season isn't the end of the world and I can get onboard with putting that to bed and starting the revamp of the team. It would be nice to draft some kids in the top halfs of the 1st and 2nd round.
