Stamkos walks and then we replace him with bottom 6 guys? We still don't have cap to sign anyone notable or even remotely close to PPG, let alone 60. Stamkos makes sense since he's still producing and will hopefully take a discount. Why the hell would any other top 6 player take a discount to play in Tampa. They have no affiliation with the team. Stamkos has taken 1 discount so everyone's hope is he takes another, within reason. More cap space needs to be opened REGARDLESS of the 91 signing.

Maybe the reason no one can actually provide names is because there aren't many good options this year, so again, 91 becomes the best available option
I agree more cap space needs to be opened regardless. The organization put itself in this position, as they should have, winning two straight and almost a third. No other fanbase or organization would have done differently and any that tries to tell you they would not are liars.

Perhaps it is best if we just step back, take a few breaths, and wait to see what happens over the next seven days. Once the initial mad rush is done, we can see what is left and go from there. In an ideal world, Stamkos is signed, Sheary and Jeannot are gone to free up cap space, and JBB has worked some of the magic that got him the GM position.

I feel like JBB could have waited to trade for McDonaugh til after signing Stamkos and could have avoided much of this cap crunch (and trading out players from a position of weakness).
Absolutely JBB screwed him self the teams know they have to move jeannot so i expect we get nothing for him . Plus it will probably take a future second rounder to move Sheary out they all know the lightning need cap space .

Interesting how so many seem fine with signing Stamkos to whatever Cap Space we have and then filling out the roster with minimum dollar contract NHLers and AHLers. Apparently, the failures of having an exhausted core group by the time post season comes along means nothing.

Rather than facing the fact that the overall quality of the supporting lineup is terrible because nearly 2/3rds of your available Cap Space is tied into six fan favorite contracts, most are blaming a third/fourth line wing who was traded for another disappointing player and draft choices that you usually are more than happy to give away in an effort to win now.

Every organization and their fans need to be able to recognize when it is time to realize the glory days are past and the odds of stumbling into another Championship are gone. The Penguins refused to accept that and look where they are now. The Lightning are poised to follow that same path if they commit the money that Stamkos deserves to him, regardless of the length of the contract.

But hey, if the Crunch Management is happy bringing back the same core veterans who have failed to lead the team over the edge to the next level in an effort to keep the fans happy and money flowing in, why should the parent club be expected not to bring back aging players who are fan favorites as well?
I would prefer not to have useless players in the line up like Jeannot and Sheary. I would prefer not to over pay 3rd liners top 6 money like Cirelli. I would prefer not to overpay a top 4 defenseman like he is a number one defenseman like Sergachev. I would prefer not to overpay a bottom 6 defenseman like a top 4 defenseman long because he had two good cup runs like Cernak and now he looks completely lost. I prefer not to lose our captain because we have garbage players in the lineup like Jeannot and Sheary. I prefer to keep Stamkos instead reacquiring a 35 year old McD with a massive caphit. I prefer to inject Howard in the top 6 with Stamkos versus signing two budget wingers. I prefer not overpaying a king's ransom in picks for complete bust like jeannot. I prefer winning playoff series compared to back to back first round exits. Kucherov, Point, and Hedman deserve better. I would rather have STamkos over McD any day at this point. Stamkos was the lightning franchise. Maybe we can extend Hedman and save a few million.

Stamkos is pretty limited in his skillset but even so he has a much higher ceiling than Cirelli even if he signs for 1-2m more than Cirelli. A 3rd line C and pker is easier to replace than a 40g scorer. I feel like Hagel evolving into the player he is just seems like a better/more preferred version of Cirelli anyways, an ES beast, elite pker and an offensive producer while coming in at a similar caphit.

Same with Sergachev, we have 2 LHD in front of him who are cheaper and his utilization is being hampered by one of them, makes no sense to hold him over Stamkos who at least serves a PP purpose that's not immediately replaceable.

Considering what all 3 bring, the goal scoring aspect is by far the least replaceable element. Seriously, what are the pros of keeping the Cirelli and Sergachev contracts? Neither players have more upside then downside, both hold very good value on the market and solve our biggest problem at the moment which is cap flexibility.

I can’t wait to hear JBB at the draft tomorrow say we still have cap space to sign Stamkos lol 😂 and the weak reporters say nothing

Obviously.... considering we can't even get Stamkos with the remaining capspace
But JBB said we had enough cap space 😃😂

I think we should trade Cirelli for a young power forward or a young top 6 right handed-defenseman with term.

I think we should trade Sheary and Jeannot for a bag of pucks lol
That should have happens already. We need to extend jeannot for league minimum for two years or trade him ASAP. WE need to trade sheary and our 7th for future considerations. We could try and extended hedman to save a million or two. We should try to find a trade involing perbix to clear cap. WE should try to trade one of Sergachev,Cernak, or Cirelli for the best possible return we can get involing any combination of a young player, prospect, or picks to get out of one of those terrible contracts.

I am a huge Cirelli fan. But I can't disagree. I think its not a matter of moving both, but one or the other. Sergachev can still hold value next season simply because of his age, so Cirelli seems like the odd one out for me.

If we don’t sign stammer JBB gets one season to show it was the right move. If it’s not, fire him. Success would be def8ned by top 3 in the Atlantic and atleast one series win in the playoffs

The question with him is: was this just the beginning (his breakout as a 50+ sniper) or his peak and crash? Either way good timing for him, the guy is getting paid big time by some team for sure.
Of course it is. The contract will be terrible long term. But when has that ever stopped GMs? He's the highest profile UFA. There will be a bidding war. He might wave it all off and sign with Florida on a discount. If not, he's getting a huge contract that someone will regret. It's not about fair and it's not about good decisions. It never is.

Whoever pays 10+M x 3+ years for a 34 y/o Stamkos should never be an NHL GM ever again.

This take won't be popular, but if Stamkos doesn't want to take a 5.5M AAV deal with us, so be it. We can't tie high sum of cap space to a 34 y/o player that has been in a steady decline for years in term of 5v5 play and is overall a net negative when on the ice at even strength. These kind of contracts paid for what a player did for a franchise instead of what the can still do are what sunk the Blackhawks after 2015.
Also, powerplay specialists are the easiest to replace IMO, especially when the PP is run by a wizard that goes by the name of Kuch.
Talking about Reinhart, not Stamkos.

Him making more than pastrnak, marner, or Nylander is laughable. I will say 10 m max on reinhart.

Buyout window is today if stammer goes it's either nashville, detroit, or a surprise team.

I really do think he will stay with tampa though.
Pastrnak gave a huge discount. Reinhart will absolutely make as much or more than the other two. He scored 57 goals and was an impact player on the way to a cup.
