Seeing him in another jersey looked weird, send him back to Tampa and we'll pretend it never happened like when the TV show Dallas tried to unsuccessfully kill off a character
This. He’s not going to waive his NMC to go anywhere but a contender though and at the full cap hit, good luck. Nashville would have to retain and take on a contract likely to get a deal done.Things like that are situational.
I guess on some hypothetical Cap-strapped contending team which didn't have him playing with a good setup man, his $8M Cap hit could be "highly negative". Or he'd certainly be "highly negative" for such a team to go out and acquire while trying to figure out how to shoe-horn him into their already-Cap-strapped lineup.
But he's not "highly negative" for a below-Cap basement-dwelling team like the Preds who won't be able to use his Cap on anybody better. At worst he's "zero value" - by virtue of basically any reasonably talented player being able to score the same 25 goals with heavy Line 1/PP1 utilization for a lot less than $8M. But that's still just "zero", not negative.
Yup, stamkos is not waiving from a no tax situation. He is there for the duration of the contract. Period. No Stamkos is a negative asset now he is almost unmovable and has a NMC.
Nashville should not have signed him. Tampa did a great job trading in him to clear room for Guentzel. That’s how you stay competitive. Good job Tampa.
Pretty sure JBB burned that bridge handling it the way he did, unfortunately…who knows though, would love to see him back but only if retained.Seeing him in another jersey looked weird, send him back to Tampa and we'll pretend it never happened like when the TV show Dallas tried to unsuccessfully kill off a character
he was just PPG 2 seasons ago. hes playing for the worst offensive team in the league. you put him on a much better offensive team and he will produce.Because he makes 8 million dollars a year as a PP specialist who is going to be 36 next season. Plus he has a NMC so you can only trade him if he lets you.
No contender is going to have 8m of cap Space to fit Stamkos in for what he brings at this point in his career.
He was a PP merchant who got caved at even strength 2 years ago, playing shotgun with the top playmaker in the league and an elite centre. He’s even older now with a lot of injuries. He’s still a useful player but not at 8m.he was just PPG 2 seasons ago. hes playing for the worst offensive team in the league. you put him on a much better offensive team and he will produce.
NMC's doesnt mean he cant be traded it just means he can be traded to who he wants to be traded to. also, it wouldnt take much for a team to absorb his contract in the off season. players and picks/prospects can fix that.
Canes already got Triggerman Jankowski from us for almost nothing. Now you want us to give them Stamkos too???He was a PP merchant who got caved at even strength 2 years ago, playing shotgun with the top playmaker in the league and an elite centre. NMC means if he doesn’t want to, he won’t be traded so it greatly weakens his value. He’s 3-4m overpaid too so they’re going to have to eat a bad contract or something in order to make it work.
A team I could see making sense for him though would be the hurricanes. Even with his liabilities, the canes lack scoring and a trigger man. He would be a big asset to their PP and they have lots of cap space. If they get caved in another playoff series and can’t score, it would be interesting to see what would happen there.
Trotz wants 2 way centers that are Defensively responsible and chip in 40 points a season not someone like Kucherov that scores over 100 points and wins Hart TrophiesI'm not sure Stamkos gets any better under a different coach? Maybe with a different playmaker on his line?
The Nashville PP isn't awful, but there is certainly no Kucherov feeding him. The only way IMHO to make Stamkos more effective is to give him another Kucherov, not another coach.
Under another coach he just won't play as much as he does for Bruno... which won't help his production. It might help make the team better. But it won't make Stamkos any better.![]()
He did McDonagh dirty too and he went running back so I'm not entirely sure it matters.Pretty sure JBB burned that bridge handling it the way he did, unfortunately…who knows though, would love to see him back but only if retained.
Canucks offer future considerations for Stamkos at 50% retained.
Sure, but there's NO WAY the Preds retain $4M a year on Stamkos. There's just no incentive right now.I don't understand how stamkos wouldn't have any value if he waived and the preds were willing to retain 50 percent. I would think plenty teams would be interested in stammer at 4 mil a year
Maybe possible if Ovy is gone next year that Washington might take him for basically free?
I mean, I'll take that. A 1st for $6M isn't a super-hot deal in general, but it's in the ballpark.Montréal offer one of his 1st round pick (worst between theirs and Calgary) for 25% retention Stamkos
Nashville get a 1st which is cool and get 6M in cap hit otherwise spent on Stamkos
Montréal get a 2nd line center at 6M per year for three more years, to play between Demidov and Laine, in hope that he rebound

I think to me, the main thing would be the hoped-for "mentality shift" for the Preds.... give all that icetime and opportunity to a younger player who might someday make a difference for the franchise. Stamkos is plugging an open hole atm, but he's not adding anything that is ultimately going to improve the fortunes of the franchise. Move him out, it forces the team to play Wood/Kemmell on the RW sniper slot, or maybe Svechkov at 2C. We're not going to get Stamkos' production out of them immediately, but in the long run putting them in those spots MIGHT pan out.![]()
the preds should hesitate for a moment for the sake of appearances and then graciously accept your offer and celebrate.Montréal offer one of his 1st round pick (worst between theirs and Calgary) for 25% retention Stamkos

75% retention required, and Nashville pays most of the assets for the extra retention.Seeing him in another jersey looked weird, send him back to Tampa and we'll pretend it never happened like when the TV show Dallas tried to unsuccessfully kill off a character

Or, and this is just a thought, we can retain nothing, pay nothing, and he can play out his generously overpriced contract on a team hunting a top 5 pick each year. Tough choice, but I think we'll go with that option.75% retention required, and Nashville pays most of the assets for the extra retention.

A non-Preds fan thinking a team could get a cheap deal for a potential bounce back player, not the Preds completely bending over to get rid of the contract.I thought the topic was moving him?
Stamkos is unlikely to waive for another bottom feeder. I think Nashville is stuck with him unless they get some big retention.A non-Preds fan thinking a team could get a cheap deal for a potential bounce back player, not the Preds completely bending over to get rid of the contract.
