SSM Greyhounds 2024-25 Season Thread, Part II

Current Roster construction:
OA (3) - Allard*, Carlisle*, Lalonde*
05 (4) - Nordh*, Mignosa, Velliaris*, Cloutier
06 (6) - Miller, Vader, Brown, McConnell-Barker, Evans, Hilton
07 (9) - Martin, Muxlow, Holub, Smith, Gillen, Charron, Hayes, Solomon, Reid
08 (2) - Andrew, Smith
* - expected graduates (2 F, 2 D, 1 G)

Looking forward to next year, it would be great if the D openings could be filled by 08 Croskery, and maybe 08 Allen who I really liked in camp last year. I imagine our two 09 first rounders will be forwards. That leaves a goalie. We have a few in the system, or we could go out and fill our 3rd OA spot with a goalie. Let's say we bring in an OA goalie.

2025-2026 Roster construction:
OA (3) - Mignosa*, Cloutier*, goalie*
06 (6) - Miller, Vader, Brown, McConnell-Barker, Evans, Hilton (*** 3 age out/traded)
07 (9) - Martin, Muxlow, Holub, Smith, Gillen, Charron, Hayes, Solomon, Reid
08 (4) - Andrew, Smith, Croskery, Allen
09 (2) - forward, forward

Not a lot of graduates over the next two seasons. Equals not a lot of spots available. I would be ok trading some of our picks this draft away for futures.

Always look forward to your breakdowns. We could have a very competitive camp this year depending who shows up. Feel like some current roster players could be pushed out.

i really like allen last year as well. IMO the most noticable 08 defenceman we had. hoping he cracks a spot this year.

agreed. i'm not opposed to going heavy 17, 18 and OA. be nice if Nordh stuck around but can't see it happening. IMO the best 3 OAs if that happens.

Yes apparently it was.

The biggest difference was being able to have Carlisle and Evans out against Greentree and Potras rather than BMB pairing. Coach Dean did a good job defensively getting the right line out against the top line of Windsor which you can do at home.

It also helped that Windsor was missing their top Dman as well out of the lineup.
Depends on who you regard as their top Dman but you’d be right either way. Mathurin has been out the entire series and is arguably their top Dman. Was on the top pair all season with Christoforo. So both are out now.

Can be a different look tonight for Hounds offense, if Windsors 2 DMen return to play.
Cristoforo (former OHL 1st round pick) plays alot of minutes and can score too, especially on PP.
Mathurin has alot of playoff experience with NBay, is 1 of the Spits overagers, and I believe a draft pick of the Red Wings.
Can't wait for tonight's game. The "opportunity" is there for the Greyhounds to tie up a series and earn another home game on Sunday. Definitely not gonna be easy vs a very good Spitfire team.

Mathurin won't be back. Christoforo is 50/50

I would hope the refs have some answering to do after this game. That was really something.

I was very impressed with our team tonight. They took a number of dirty hits that were let go and still left everything out on the ice. You can't really ask for a much better performance. If you get that goal called correctly and a couple of power plays, the result is probably different.

There were a lot of missed calls both ways. Examples were Woodall’s high stick and Carlyle’s spear. But there were many. I thought they made the right call on the goal. While Hayes wasn’t really touching Costanzo, his skate had Joey’s stick hooked to prevent his movement.

Game 3 might have been the worst officiating I’ve ever seen. Again missed both ways, a lot let go. With everything that was let go Greentree’s call was outrageous which then led to a PP goal. The called back Davis goal on a kicking motion could easily have gone the other way as he was pushed and the kick was likey unintentional.

There were also the two absolutely outrageous boarding calls in the 3rd period that were missed. Both were borderline suspendable plays, right in front of the refs.

There was another where Costanzo held the puck in his glove for a ridiculously long time (5+ seconds) with no whistle and it led to a scoring chance. That one had me puzzled.

A pair of brutal icing calls took away 2 good scoring chances. One where the Hounds player touched the puck before it crossed the line and another where the puck was already over centre.

The goal call was wrong based on precedent. I understand where you are coming from, but they don't call inadvertent contact like that in the regular season, they never have. Costanzo's made the initial move that got his stick hung up and Hayes wasn't in the crease.

The whole series hasn't been that bad or anything and we probably lose the series anyways, but I think the Hounds take game 4 with fair officiating. They were definitely the better team for the majority of the game. Windsor did well with all of the injuries, but defensive depth was definitely exposed.

I didn't get to see any of game 4 but it sounds like the zebras stole the show lol.

It's do or die time (insert whatever cliche you prefer here). With the talk about this playoffs being a learning experience, I hope they put up a big fight now that their backs are against the wall. There's nothing more dangerous than a cornered animal and learning to play from behind in a series would be invaluable if they show up and play strong hockey. Wins or losses don't matter at this point, it's all about how they respond to this adversity. Go Hounds Go!
