OT - NO POLITICS Spring has sprung

My husband and I travel a lot (I’m typing this from a beautiful oceanfront balcony in the Bahamas). We meet a lot of people and see a lot of places.

Couldn’t pay me to live anywhere else.

This is the secret. Enjoy travel and seeing different places and meeting different people, but love where you live, because then both the departing and the coming home are equally good.

I like it here in New England, especially Western MA and Northern New England. There is a sense of place and social capital that doesn't exist in other parts of the country. It just seems more civilized here, town meeting has a lot to do with it. When I leave New England people just seem very distrustful of others.

Lot of great places to live but I love the 4 seasons and there’s a lot to do on the North Shore ~ also being a big sports fan of the 4 majors there’s no better place. We grew up with boats and going to Cape and islands and I love our seafood.

The one place I would move full time is Austin. It’s beautiful and a lot to do.

Literally anywhere is better than Florida . Except maybe TX.
I don't hate Calif. I hate that my daughter moved there. It is a very big state with a lot of coast on the Pacific. The weather is very different from the North to the South. It (like New England) has good education and health. There are many beautiful places in Calif but it isn't home.

I have never been to TX and it isn't on the list. I hear (from my niece Julia) that Austin is nice. Julia isn't really my biological niece, but I have known her so long that we say she is. Great young lady (Good job @DKH).

Amanda comes home fairly often so that is OK. It isn't the same though. She is flying in Friday for Mother's Day. Usually, we go to a Bs game...sigh...we are going to the Cape.

I was born here and will die here.
I actually love it even more now that Im retired. Even my hate of Winter this past year decreased now that I found someone to do my driveway.
Did you get your standby generator yet? It makes a blizzard so much more enjoyable.:scool:

I remember when you were looking South of here (maybe the Carolinas?) to maybe move. I am glad you stayed.

I know of two different couples who moved to Fla but moved back.

I’d like to visit Austin. That’s about it.

I’m sure it’s hard being away from Amanda. My mom lives a mile away, but she’s probably going to have to move after she retires. The rent is too high and she won’t need to commute anymore, so it’s not worth the price. She’s still young-ish, 66, but she’s had some health issues. Given it’s just the 2 of us, I like having her close by. I’m hoping I can find her something more affordable in the are, but my gut is she’s going to have be a little farther out

No, still no generator. We go back and forth on it.
We visited SC a number of times and considered it but Nancy’s sister passed away so there wasnt a family reason any longer to consider it. I would have obviously done it for her. But I hated it down there. So f***ing hot and humid amongst other factors.
If we ever leave this house it will be somewhere here in MA or at the most still in New England.
My oldest boy who works from home and lives with his GF in Waltham is closing on a house in North Adams. He has always loved it out there since his 6 years at UMass and many of his friends are out there. He’s going to use it as an Air B&B for the next year while his GF finishes her Masters here in Boston. So, who know, maybe we end up out there someday.

My older sis lives in Williamstown (very close to North Adams) in an old house with a brook next to it. She tore down the old garage (separate from the house) and put up an art studio. She made her living restoring very expensive paintings for museums (often worked with the Clark Art Institute) but is a very good artist on her own. Wendy and I have no talent in the arts ...at all.

This is the place he’s buying. Actually 2 units. The smaller one rents to nurses that work in some big hospital a few blocks away. Both sides have been totally updated and they sold him all the furniture and belongings in both units for an $6K. I thought it was a helluva deal. He offered over their ask and they accepted in 8 hours.
The shed in back is a small studio space. Has electricity and is heated.

I was born here and plan on spending the rest of my life here, although me and the missus are planning on snowbirding a bit in Hilton Head.

I've lived in other places twice - Denver/Boulder for law school, and Raleigh for a couple of years early in my career. I loved Colorado but I grew up in Quincy 1/4 mile away from Wolly beach and missed the ocean too much.

And Wally the generator is a game changer. The tipping point for us is that our autistic son isn't able to grasp the concept of power outages and loses his mind. It was an extra chore to get the generator to feed our house and his in-law apartment, once that was solved it is amazing for piece of mind. And funny that we never know when the power is out until our neighbors come over (they have an open invite when the power is out).

there is nothing better then getting in a beef with a Mass guy or gal and apologizing if I’m wrong. They will do a 180 and ready to hang out. Never fails

The nicest people at their core

I have lived in the same place all of my life. I have traveled to Canada, every state on the East Coast & as far west as St. Louis but for me there is no place like home. The only other places I would consider living is in Maine or Space Coast Florida.

This video showed up in my feed. For those of you who would like to see where I come from here it is. And yes it is a lovely drive to make.
