OT - NO POLITICS Spring has sprung

Got my very first hand built piece back tonight from its final firing. I am so happy it survived. Steampunk stamped cup with fire engine red underglaze that was then clear coated to make it dishwasher, microwave and food safe. It is an 8oz mug. Perfect for a late night cup of tea but I need to make it a bit bigger in this session.

Final trip to the cabin this weekend before the ice breakup starts to prep it for the summer. The weather is finally turning nice in the great white north. We will be on the + side on the weekend, which feels a little earlier than the norm.
That's because mother nature sent the cold and snow to us down here. Hope you have a great time this weekend :)

I wish people understood how much time and effort went into these sorts of things. BRAVO!

Could mods please move to the TV thread 🧵 ?

Haven't viewed yet.

Although not much for murder mysteries, will ✅ as response & reviews have been overwhelmingly positive.

Plus, each episode is apparently one continuous shot. Almost like the famous, no edit tracking shot that opens Orson Welles' "A Touch of Evil" (1958),

This is my first time living in a place that I had to pay for natural gas. I realized it would fluctuate based on the outdoor temps, but my bill has gone from $162 in January, to $118 in February, to $67 for March lol. After I've been there a year I can enroll in balance billing so the expense is evened out through the year with an adjustment once a year, I might try that.

My electric bill for last month was only $36. Even cheaper than my apartment lol

My gas bill was almost $600 in February lol. We keep the heat at 60-65 upstairs, two zones. The basement stays 58-60 on it's own zone. $600 for everyone (except for me) to be cold. I forget exactly, but almost 2/3 of the charge is the delivery.

I've never tried the balanced billing, mostly because I don't trust them. Tell me what I owe each month so I can complain about it before I click submit payment

$600 for gas :amazed: what's your square footage?

That's a good point about the balance billing

I have to admit that looks like a lot of patience.
Thank You! I went into the class thinking I would make a piece and it would be done in a week. I quickly learned that wasn't the case. The mug took me 6 weeks to go from building it to having a ready to use piece. I still have another cup and 9 coasters that are in progress. It will probably be at least another 3-4 weeks before they are completed and that is if they don't explode in the kiln due to air bubbles or excess moisture.

If I listed out all the steps and time, you'd see that artists actually under price their work. The stuff you see in Target or Walmart are all mass produced so they can charge you $8 for a generic mug and still make a profit.

I have three zones, the third is the basement that is finished as an apartment but we use as a gym (bedroom) / second living room / spillover fridge area until the summer when family visits, it stays icy all winter. We topped out at like $550 over the winter I think. $600 is very impressive. The wife and I have been married since June but haven't fully integrated all the finances yet (I owned the house before her). A few times she's complained about the cold and I just forward that email to her, works every time haha.

I to will not enroll in balanced billing. Complaining about how much it is in the winter takes the edge off the costs, and getting a bill for $30 bucks all summer is worth it mentally. That savings we can use to cover the pool expenses.
